I worked at Bucees deli. They brought in a chemical engineer who designed the brisket. He brought in 40 different tasting briskets and said our vote is the one that makes it. It was a great day. They smoke them somewhere else and freeze them and send to the store. Store pops them in an oven for like 8 hours. It's honestly the top 3 brisket ive ever had. Went to my first Buc-ee’s a few weeks ago on a road trip. Going, I had the brisket, egg and potato burrito. Coming back the XL sandwich. While not the best smoked brisket I ever had, totally 100% respectable and you would not complain if you went to a smokehouse and got the same. Considering the volume of the operation and the quality of the total experience, I will never pass up a Buc-ee’s again in my life if I pass one and have the time. Absolutely a great experience. The bathrooms are so spacious and clean that you will never find anything like them elsewhere.

I can relate. The last time I was in Texas a buddy and I headed out to Snow's in Lexington, one of my favorite BBQ joints ever. We got there at 8am and the line was already 300ft long (250ish people). We were there for an hour and the lined moved maybe 70ft. As much as I love Kerry and Tootsie at Snow's, we said no way and left. So we drove over to Taylor, had some amazing breakfast at Plowman’s Kitchen (a converted school band hall) and then picked up some bbq to go at Louie Mueller's.

A little background on my first WHATABURGER in the early 70's Port Arthur, southeast,Texas. Only Whataburger in the area. They took a meatball out of a metal bowl that was sitting in ice. Toss it on the griddle right in front of me and flatten somewhat. Grease fat flying popping everywhere. S and P on the patty. Threw the long crinkle cut fries in fryer again in front of me. Toasted the buns on the griddle in the fat with butter. Pulled fries out and salted. Mayo and mustard dressed out burger. You had to do the lean over to eat the burger. Juicy juicy and it didn't fall apart. That was the absolute best burger. Nobody has come close to that burger. Now today cooking is hidden. If you want a hot fresh burger go early in the morning. They have to cook patty fresh. Burger is no where juicy as before but good. No more crinkle cut fries. That is a loss in my book. Today's what whataburger is a disappointment to when I was a teenager.

My two biggest criticisms of Bucees bbq is the price of course, and when they chop it up all the big blobs of fat all stay in the mix. Many times in the sandwiches and brisket tacos you get a huge mouthful of fat. Other than that as Jeremy said it’s no competition winner but it’s not that bad tasting either. Oh yeah, Bucees doesn’t sell any Pepsi products so don’t go looking for a late night Mountain Dew for the caffeine kick lol.

The chopped brisket gets the fat and the sliced sandwiches get the lean cuts. Pro tip

What do you compare the price to? A price less than BBQ joints? The price is fair to me considering its not some cheaply made brisket. Also, getting sliced brisket instead of chopped will reduce the fat content. If you don't like fat, don't order chopped brisket which is always the fatty side of the brisket.

I've been wanting to go since they opened in SC, just to check it out. I think it's time.

Buc-ee's is awesome! We stopped at the one in Calhoun, GA on our way back from Disney, earlier this year. 😎

Whataburger has been “meh” since it was bought by Chicago. Another good thing about buccees is the cheap fountain drinks and 20 pound bag of ice for $99 cents. When you live in Dallas and you pick any direction to go in for a camping trip you’re pretty much guaranteed to run into a buccees. My biggest gripe is people that are parked at the pump and go inside for an hour. Believe it or not the pumps do get full.

Have you tried the brisket at The Texan in Schulenberg, Texas? It's much like Buc-ee's... a large truck stop, with a bazillion fuel pumps, large clean bathrooms, all the trucker paraphernalia you could ever want & lotsa MEAT!!! I recommend the Brisket Mac platter. I had never heard of such a combo before. It's about a pound of macaroni and cheese topped with a generous layer of shredded smoked brisket, BBQ sauce & jalapeños optional... You can buy a variety of pastries too, kolaches included. I died & went to heaven!!! Then, as you go to check out, you're confronted with bulk bins of jerky! Heaven!!!

Buc-cee's isn't a truck stop. They don't allow big trucks.

I'm so "mad" at you for stopping at Buc'ees. Makes me miss Texas even more! Forget the jerky on the wall. In the cold case, my favs are the hill country pepper and the garlic. My mouth is watering!! Thanks dude...

So much to say about Buc-ee’s lol. Food is decent. Glad you mentioned the bathrooms at the end as it’s the best place for a pit stop. And coincidentally I bought one of those RTIC coolers on sale there a number of years ago and it’s been my dedicated bbq rest spot lol.

It's been awhile since I've been to Buccees. The road munchies selection there are second to none! Glad you guys hit it! And... while you are in the Austin area.. please visit my Costco in Pflugerville! I would love to meet y'all!!

Their brisket tacos is where its at for me. Sometimes the sandwiches will still have some blobs of fat in it but overall pretty good for a gas station. Was this the Bucees in Temple? I live in Temple!

We stop at Buckey's on way to vacation in FL. It's solid. I grab a brisket sammy and a nanner puddin, maybe some nuts and other snacks. Coffee too if I got a long drive, which is always since we never go there, even though they are not that far away from us.

The only time ive been to Buc-ees was in Athens Alabama and i grabbed a brisket sandwich. It was fantastic. Brst gas station food ive ever had by far. Here in Nevada our nicest gas station is Maverick, which you think is good gas station until you travel to the south or wisconsin to go to Buc-ees or Quik Trip

Great video! I hope you had a chance to try their brisket tacos. They only offer them during the breakfast hours, unfortunately. I wish they would offer their brisket tacos all day long. And yes! Their beef jerky is worth the stop all by itself.

We have a Buc-ee's like 30 minutes (St. Augustine FL) from the house. It's a great place to get a cheap brisket sandwich and some of those cinnamon glazed pecans. We have another location 1.5 hours south in Daytona also. We can spend the day at Daytona Beach and grab a sandwich on the way home.

I love bucees!! My favorite stop for smoked meats(even more then bucees) is Prasek's in Hillje Texas. It's a few miles south of a Houston. I don't know if you'll ever go that way, but I definitely recommend. It's my happy place.

The nearest Buc-ee's to me is about an hour's drive away. Definitely worth a visit if one is near you. I agree, the brisket sandwiches are pretty decent. Just the smell when you walk in puts you in a good mood. They definitely are not the place you'd want to be with a heart issue or diabetes, but you only live once!

Where was this? If you were in New Braunfels, you were about 2 miles from the TX BBQ Crossroads. Rudy's, Blacks & Cooper's within a quarter mile of each other on Loop 337 near Gruene.

We go to Texas once a year for the Hotter 'n Hell 100 in Wichita Falls. We fly into DFW and there's a Buc-ee's on the way out. We get a brisket sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, a pound or two of jerky, homemade potato chips, nuts...the list goes on. Never seem to get out under $200

Should go back and get a breakfast burrito. I was impressed. Drove from Florida to California with my son and stopped in and was wishing there was one within a 100 miles of my home. Kinda like Barstow Del Taco good.

Kolache often sold along side donuts in the south. Kind of a breakfast/brunch item.
