i was talking with my homie about this last night, we're both producers and were talking about taking time with a select few beats or just makin new ones all the time and coming back to em, was interesting
@JOHNATHONWIN2 жыл бұрын
I’d say make new ones all the time but you def need to be finishing beats to some degree 💥 Heaps of producers have hundreds of unfinished beats and that sh always stressed me lmao, I feel like having heaps of old beats that aren’t finished is like weight on your shoulders so that’s why there’s a balance between quantity/quality, as for taking time with a few, I’d say do that when you’re zoned in on finishing a beat or when you know exactly what you need to focus on (like improving drums, mixing, melodies, whatever). Everyone has a different take on this so whatever works for your own music is the best way to go !

The point of quality is to not try and nail them on the first go. They’re just first drafts and you revisit them. That’s the point.

And knowing that it's Madlib, each one sampled some random ass song that goes hard as fuck and the beat is perfection but DOOM just said, "Nah I don't like that" and you can hear Madlib crying in the corner.

I think i agree but not with how you phrased it, just make music you wanna make, andthen when youre burnt out go through them, i do agree trying to make 1 good song is a lot worse than making 10 and picking 1

I get that if your just thinkin of this as a job but as an artist what’s the point of making 100 songs? Bulk work isn’t art it’s commerce . Art is supposed to be deliberate, contemplated on, n sometimes slow. Before Madlib even met with doom to make this project he was inspired by hip hop and I can only guess but the speed of production probably went into that.
