Philippine Madrigal Singers serenades another choir Coro de Universitario de Mendoza
Teatro Colón (2011)
"Eres tú" (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈeɾes ˈtu], "It Is You") is a popular Spanish language song written in 1973 by Juan Carlos Calderón
Note: The original video had some gaps. to complete the song's flow some areas were patched with a similar performance the same choir did in a church which caused a bit of "chorusing" and an unfortunate instance of a delay (please excuse the irony).

Hi there 👋 i hope you have Google translate? That is if you don't "do" English.. It's not surprising that a choir from the Philippines would pronounce Spanish well for the Philippine islands were a colony of Spain for well over 3 Centuries!! 333 years "technically". Though that occupation ended in 1898 and most of the people did not retain the language.. Because the Americans came along to take our hard won independence away.. and stayed for a half century of occupation themselves too, so here i am typing this in English, a Filipino ;-) Many in the Philippines do understand at least some English. Though spoken Spanish was common among many Filipinos during the American occupation until that generation died out.. but until the very late 80s Spanish language minimum 6 units was still required in college. The Philippine Madrigals are a renowned choir in the country, based from the University of the Philippines. A university founded 1905 during the American occupation, they did some good too btw.. ;-)

Filipinos does not have any difficulty speaking spanish because spanish language is used to be part of the curriculum in college. Besides, Spain occupied Philippines for quit a long time.

Dear Lady, the Philippines was named after King Philip II of Spain by the Spanish explorer Ruy Lopez de Villalobos during his 1542-1546 expedition to the islands. It wasn't after the Spanish-American of 1902 ended that the Philippines was ceded to the Americans. Filipino's ancestors spoke Spanish and later English.

FOOL! She never claimed anything of what you just said. And, your history is a little off. Spain ceded Philippines to the US in 1898 (signed in 1899) after the Spanish-American war. 1902 was when the Philippines-American war ended. FYI just because some of Philippines language consisted of borrowed words from the Spanish language that does not mean the enunciation and accent will be the same.

@@JABM-AU Idiot, the Spanish colonized the Philippines between 1565-1898. Spanish was the official language of the Philippines from the beginning of the Spanish rule to the latter part of the 16th Century. It maybe borrowed Spanish words here and there today, but not then. That's 333 years of Spanish colonization. One minute into the video, the reactor conveyed how she was intrigued in knowing how the choir will sing the song in Spanish. She obviously doesn't know the history of the Philippines and I was simply commenting to that end. At 2:10 of the recording, she places a caption remarking how perfect the pronunciation was. She's impressed because she doesn't know that Filipinos still used the hard vowel sounds from the Spanish of the past even though the official language is now Tagalog. I may be a little off regarding the historical date that the Philippines was ceded to the American, but that was hardly the point. It's obvious to me you can't read and comprehend the written English very well. FYI, you are an imbecile.

@@JABM-AUIdiot, what the hell are you talking about? One minute into her reaction, she expressed being intrigued how the choral group was going to sing a song in Spanish. At 2:00 into the recording, she places a caption expressing how she found the Spanish pronunciation perfect. This could only mean that she was impressed because she didn't know that Filipinos spoke fluent Spanish in the past. The Philippines was a Spanish colony in the latter part of the 16th Century whereby Spanish was the official language between 1565 to 1898. That is 333 years of Spanish rule. It wasn't borrowed words here and there back then. It was Philippines official language. My historical date when the Spanish ceded to the Americans may have been a few years off, but that was hardly the point. It was simply my attempt at letting her know that the Spanish influence is still rooted in today's language with the use of hard vowel sounds.
