Oh, I'm sure it's a tough life too. But it does take you around the world. And I bet if you ask any of the guys who've been at it for years, putting up with the tough times and working their way up, they'd all say it was well worth it in spite of the challenges.

That chick is very Hot! We did not have likes of her on board 'Christian Oldendorff' the small German ship with the innards of a Super yacht and with all Mahogany wood interiors back in my days, 1977 onwards to be exact! But, I really miss the Blue Sea & the Blue Sky

@DJsonnyANTWERPEN my great grandfather was capt. on the queen mary back in the day. WAAY back. sometimes id agree with you. by what hes told me while he was alive. but with cruise ships, being better?, maybe. with cargo. you got to get from point a to b. same with cruise. but. with cruise. gotta keep the passengers happy. as long as cargo arrives with a majority unbroken/damaged, youre good.

Damn. If I'd had a trace of sense back when I was 19 I would have set myself on a course for a career with Maersk or one of the other big lines. "Glamorous" is a stupid way to put it, but what other profession - excepting maybe "airline pilot" - turns the world into your office?

You are too naive. Nobody waits for you here. At least you are British of origin and at the right place at the right time. But again, since you are onboard on ship in a lowest rank available (because you acquire experience for your Certificate) , you are no one... Do not be offended, but that is real life...

Try do this job and I would even say lifestyle when you are at your 40s. My grandfather has started working in the merchant navy during this age and had heart attack later, so I have not seen him at all... So it is better not to say things about which you are not aware of. I might guess you have not been at sea before.

@deino117 You are probably right, I can't think of something else. I'm so glad to be a part of Maersk, and I want and hope that I can work for Maersk my entire working life, I really don't want anything else, It's my dream and I'm living it. As somebody else said, it's not to late deino.

A man must be blind, to make up his mind, to go to sea once more.

Thanks for the message. I'm 54 and would probably have to pump weights for about a year to even have a hope.
