I surfed the 2nd point mostly. It was a shorter ride, but much less crowded. On the beach, we would sit at the first point and watch Dora. He owned it. And he was a show. There were moves of his that I copied just because they looked so cool. His arch and his parallel stance in the white water. The thing that got me is why Dora put up with the first point crowd. It wasn't the only wave around. It was maybe the best in the area, but at the time Topanga was also a great wave and uncrowded. I think Dora felt that Malibu was his and everyone else was trespassing. And you know, only a fool would take off in front of him. To this day I think he was perhaps the best surfer ever. Surfing progressed beyond what he was doing, but I think his moves changed the way waves were ridden more than any other person. (Phil Edwards was in there too, but it was Dora who did those sideslips.) Anyhow, I don't know anyone who was surfing Malibu in those days didn't know that they were seeing something special when they were watching Dora.

While watching this I was wondering if either he or David Nuuhiwa was the best noserider ever. Both just looked like they were in almost total control while on the nose. And of course, Dora just looked so cool - the perfect stance.

I started as a grom at the "Bu" '63-'75. Saw numerous epic south swells with Dora holding court. He let my friend fKelly Field ride his "Cat". Dora liked groms but hated older surfers. Especially my older friend Mitch "The Masochist".

Miki Dora; R.I. P. Great character or our times, the 60's, I remember once , we were surfing Cerro Azul with a bunch of others most of them ' goofys' ; while waiting for a set of waves he asked me; '' Is there near hear a right like this? just for you and me?''..............I told him, sorry.... No rights near here...........That was a nice and enjoyable surfing day at Cerro Azul... It's kept in my mind since then.

@@Sidetrackification Tks a lot. It's great to see videos of Miki, when in my times, the sixties, we only could see rare and seldom pictures of him in SURFER magazine. He was and still is our hero and icon in the sport we love for generations.
