Agreed. Would have made it the absolutely ultimate Jean Grey figure in 1:12 scale. As it is, though, it is my definitive Jean Grey figure. I regret not pre-ordering this but I was able to find a good deal on one today!

@@UnparalleledUniverse Since Mafex have made the winged gold Wonder Woman, so Archangel is possible. But my dream Mafex fig would be a Jim Lee/Fox Cartoon/Capcom Apocalypse, with swappable weapon arm attachments. Their Hush Bane shows they can do larger moulds and their Iron Man MK85 shows they can pack it with accessories. So why not make the most powerful mutant ever?

@@cookedit Good call. Sure it would be like $140, but it would be the absolute definitive Apocalypse. That's what I like from this company...you only have to buy it once. Having said that, now they're making the Spider-Man we wanted to begin with, with none of that metallic look. I reeeally don't like that with them taking a page from Hasbro's playbook. Well, they did that with AoA Magneto too. So like 85% of the figures they do are one-and-done's.

@@cookedit I'm good with the Hasbro Colossus and Archangel (since the last one has metallic wings and fists), but I'd totally buy Mafex versions. We need a classic (Chris Claremont) Nightcrawler with the jheri curl; and most of all, a non-undersized Sabretooth with a big ass sculpted mane. The Select's are amazing, but they're basically statues. So the nitpicky articulation snobs can't really do anything with them. And all of that snobbery is rubbing off on me.

@@Chalor. Yeah, but that business model of releasing alternate outfits or colour variations using the same mould keeps them in the business if making more figs. I can't lie, I love my AOA Magneto and look forward to the more classic one. Same way I cannot wait for my symbiote Spidey due this month, even when it uses an old mould.

With the upcoming Storm and Magneto- I think MAFEX is doing the cover of Jim Lee's X-Men #1. If so, that means Prof X, Rogue, and Colossus are gonna be in line next for this team (not counting repaints like X-Factor Cyclops and X-Force Wolvie). Can we imagine a MAFEX 1/12 Colossus?!?! We all need a new Colossus figure!!!

Review was spot on as usual. I had a lot of the same thoughts as you and a few minor gripes. But I do still T hink Psylocke is a great figure just a few limitations in movement that are frustrating but still the BEST Psylocke we got IMO. When it comes to Jean however she’s perfect in every way IMO and is my definitive Jim Lee Jean Grey no doubt.

Great review. I can't wait until I get mine. Sabretooth would be great. But since these characters are based of their looks on the Capcom VS games. I want Sabretooth Birdy two pack! She comes with a big ass mahine gun like in the game. That would be awesome!

I thought I was the only one who noticed that these are actually as inspired by their MvC iterations as they are their comic counterparts. Notice for every X-men that has appeared in one, they make sure to include a pose or two from the games. Even more noticeable with the upcoming Magneto, who has an effect piece that is from the Marvel Superheroes arcade intro.

the Marvel Select Sabretooth is the best figure to date. a Mafex Sabretooth is gonna be way too small just like they did with Venom.

Depends, the Mafex Venom is based on his first appearance look/earlier looks where he isn't this hulk looking monster

@@diegolaradiaz8948 But Venom should have been a little taller, he is almost the same height as the Mafex Spidey. Mafex have shown a comic Bane made from a larger unique mould so I am sure they can do a Sabretooth that looks good.

I think Mafex for the most part does a better job at nailing specific comic art designs than Hasbro, especially looking at their Jim Lee stuff. It's probably just because they're all unique sculpts, but the silhouette and even the hair and face sculpt to me just make their figures look like they stepped off the panels. I just have two Mafex figures mainly due to budget, but I would love to see them do more Spider-Man villains, I think they could easily give us the best version of the various Goblins we've ever had.

@@UnparalleledUniverse Man, I really wanna know your issues are with all of 'em. The '90s one looks like it jumped out of Jim Lee's sketch pad/a really good Capcom iteration. The OG version looks like...I don't know, with the wild hair I can't place the artist. Then the zombie one is badass, even though the articulated mouth makes it look a bit like a ventriloquist dummy. And they're all beasts, towering over Logan as they should. Other than preferring the Jim Lee one to have a bigger mane, I can't think of one complaint about the sculpts. And yeah, like you mentioned, you're one of the handful out there that really like Marvel Select's. I just can't figure it out, unless it totally comes down to not being able to pose them like you want. If I had money like that, I'd buy you at least one....so you could not have your views changed in the slightest lol.

the wrist guards she wears have 6 notches which in the comic its only 4 notches, if you were reduce the notches her elbow bend would be better. Also her sides of her pants were tan not blue. and her blue diamond on her head was a lighter blue. I know ML team gets stuff wrong but this bad for $100 plus.

Arm articulation is equivalent to marvel legends limited arm range. Gambit and Brown suit wolverine has been there perfected figures from mafex

I think it’s accurate. Jean is about 5’7”. Psylocke is about 5’11”.

Wade you might want to check the upper arms on your copy. On my copy the arms are assembled so that the triceps are facing forward and the biceps are facing backwards. Most if not all the pics I’ve seen online show the same thing. Simple fix, just boil and pop, and swap the upper arm pieces (biceps/triceps part) from left to right, vice versa

Very cool. Looking forward to mine at the end of the month for sure! Bummer about the elbows but at least based on the video, the face looks less weird than it did in the promo pics. You know, I would not mind if Mafex started taking a Figma-like approach to long hair (soft plastic combined with usually well placed hinges). Also, a Mafex Sabertooth or Omega Red would completely rule.

Great figure and is decidedly my ultimate 1:12 scale Jean Grey. My only gripe with it is that the coloring of the costume is quite inaccurate with the comics, specifically those thigh pads. They're not supposed to be blue. Even the source character art in the box shows this. Not really sure if the late 90s sported that look, though. But I can clearly remember that it didn't in early to mid, even in Uncanny X-men during Wilce Portacio's run and beyond.

I feel like her regular face has small lips and wider cheek bones from the front view. The side view looks good though. Jean’s articulation should be normal person articulation. She’s not a ninja like Psylocke. You’re right about Psylocke’s articulation. Should of been waaaay better than what we got. Not a particular fan of her face too. Her face is rectangular versus an oval shape. Lastly, I wish they would make they female figure’s hair articulated. That she can actually look up and be more action like during dynamic posing.

Like most Mafex figures this looks great for the most part. The issue I have with this line is that you're paying a premium and they can't seem to get the paint QC right. Persistent issue for them. Not good enough.

Small thing, doesn't ruin it, and it's probably a top-5 figure for me. But it grinds my gears a bit that it's not better given what it cost me. Hoping that Hush Nightwing will be pristine.

This looks pretty good. I think I'll enjoy it. Thanks for another great review. I will say comparing it to the Legends version i do think that figure does some things better than MAFEX. Mostly in the lower half of the body. The the legs feet and buns are just molded better on the Legends figure in my opinion. They are feminine show some musculature and they don't shy away from molding a butt. I don't need anything gratuitous but i don't need my figures looking like they are wearing diapers either. The head sculpts are nice. The puffy curly hair is very retro but I do wish they used softer plastic or hinges on the hair to allow more head movement.

It's like saying a bald Professor X in a green (or maybe blue) suit in a big yellow hoverchair isn't the popular version....the one with the Pippi Longstocking braids that gets around on a gas powered pogo stick is the one 👍. Nooooooo! lol These quintessential (Jim Lee) looks are the dictionary versions. But maybe not with kids now. If they weren't around when comics were at their peak in the '90s, they really missed out; just like pro wrestling.
