I have nothing but the greatest respect for Shirley Caesar, she open the door and brought gospel songs to the masses. Right behind her and following in her footsteps with her God blessed power house voice is Yolanda Adams. Aretha started in her father's church and released many gospel albums and in every concert she ever did at the end of the concert she'd take it back to church. Aretha did sing secular music/soul, but so did a lot of people. What separated her then as it does to this day is that she never left her religion behind. Aretha was always signing to the choir.
