GOP's vow to get rid of Dep. of Ed is another weird one. Up to 20% of kids have special needs that are funded (and regulated) by the DOE. Special needs access is a very easy budget to cut, and it'll essentially force parents to pay if they need it - as state likely won't provide the amount of funding needed to fully cover it.

You have to pay a higher premium for Medicare part b, which only covers some medications, some dr visits, some in home care. And most Medicare plans dont cover eye glasses,, hearing aids,, or dental.. Why do you think seniors are struggling. Medicare isn't what people think. Now if you want good free coverage yell for Medicaid. Those welfare folks got it made. Medicaid pays for everything.

@@timo5601 as one who is on Medicare, it isnt the utopia you are all made to think. Medicare doesn't pay 100% of anything. At best %80. You pay out of pocket that %20. You know how much that can add up to a year? Plus flat Medicare doesn't pay for medications and most medical devices, you need part b or other types of insurance to cover those costs. And those plans aren't cheap. Medicare only covers 1 eye exam every 2 years, and even then often times does not cover its full cost. Medicare doesn't pay for eyeglasses nor contact lenses. It also doesn't cover any dentistry, nor hearing. Think about this. You pay for Medicare, PLUS at least 3 other expensive policies to cover what Medicare won't cover.

FYI: The ACA was patterned after “Romneycare” the Massachusetts state program. That program ensured coverage despite pre-existing conditions. Write or call your state legislators and let them know, in the event of the ACA being repealed, you want a quick transition to a state run program. MA showed it can be done. The time for legislators to think of this is now before it becomes urgent. Good luck.

When I was out of work from 2013-2016, when I tried to get insurance through the ACA (Obama-Care), they wanted to charge me $542 a month for insurance. If I have zero income because I was out of work for medical reasons, how can I afford that monthly charge. Same goes for Cobra Insurance, how can I come up with $900-1300 a month if I have zero income. I've now been out of work since 9/11/23 and only reason I have insurance is because of my spouse. But I had to sell my car and most of my belongings to survive this year and no money after January, so I'll probably lose my house (only owe around $26,400).

As sad as your situation is, many who had no insurance prior to its implementation now do have coverage. Why else would they now be concerned if the ACA disappears. I don't think anyone would complain if they actually worked to improve it. Also many republican states refused the subsidies to lower the cost to the consumers and actively worked to discourage participation. Less participants meant less contributors so higher cost per participating consumers.

@@lynnbier2868 What needs to be done but this is my opinion, is to solve some of our countries problems is use our military to help build new homes for millions of Americans. Build many new power plants to generate more energy to lower the cost of electric and better prepare us for our future. Eliminate insurance companies and make our medical system part of our guaranteed right as a citizen. Stop pharmaceuticals companies from charging hundreds of dollars for life saving medicine that is sold for much cheaper in the rest of the world. My spouse is a Type 1 Diabetic, and I am now a Type 2 and we both have other medical issues. I caused my own Diabetes because of the food I chose to eat growing up and that's on me. But we continue to allow companies to push this food on everyone which causes us many health issues. We commercialize everything all to make a buck. But between Insurance and Pharmaceutical companies, insurance shouldn't dictate which lifesaving medicine you can have because of the cost that pharmaceutical companies charge. I'm not a Democrat, Independant, or Republican affiliated, but my views are more conservative. People tend to say I am Republican like my wife, but the people I would have voted for sometimes are Democrats because we only have two choices. This last election I could not in good consensus vote for either candidate.

Pre existing conditions can keep you from getting a job. If the employer offers health insurance the rate the employer pays for their employees health insurance will increase if they have employees with pre-existing conditions so employers will go back to not hiring older employees and employees who have had past medical conditions.
