To be fair, the 1st Amendment is very badly written. This is partly because the 1st is not legal code. It is "aspirational". In proper laws, everything is defined. Meanings are very defined. For example, the different ways people can be killed. Is it first degree murder, manslaughter, unlawful killing, death my misadventure, etc, no fault accident, negligence. ??? The 2nd Amendment suffers from the same vagueness and ambiguity. if it really does mean the unlimited/absolute right of individuals to own and use weapons as they please, that throws out all the murder statutes. And inded, that was what happened in the Kyle Rittenhouse case. he was found guilty of nothing. The defense used [or rather misused] the 2nd Amendment and the right to "self defense", even though the little entitled vigilant deliberately left his home, looking for a fight over 20 miles away. Of course, the little bigot was deputized by some fascist one-horse local cop-shop.

British here - and yes, I have no problem with conservatives in general - the old kind that still believe in democracy, rule of law (not BY law) and the arguments and main differences are about how the government should manage the country best for it's citizens. However here - and in the USA, and even Germany recently - there has been a massive degradation into a right wing which is now throwing out the laws that protect us, refusing to be accountable and speaking the words of fascism even if they have not yet achieved it. That's how we got the dumb Brexit - sorry to all in EU about that. However, at least in the UK and Germany we managed to pause the rise of the right wing in our governments by voting recently. In the USA the power of the media and the lies told throughout the stupidly long campaign that lasts years (6 weeks max in UK) has led to Trump 2.0 and whatever follows for the USA and the world. I really think that the problem with the USA is that - apart from 9/11 - it has not really suffered war on its soil in 100s of years. They have fought many wars overseas and lost many soldiers in them, but critically that warfare has never marched through their cities, suburbs and capital cities. It's the only way I can understand so many US voters being so flippant and treating democracy as a bit of a joke to "own the libs" because they live in a zero consequence fantasy world in their heads. Politics is a serious business in every country and the right to vote is something that has been hard fought for over the centuries and is the only power the ordinary person has, beyond the rule of law, to change things for the better or protects that which is worth preserving. Now? Well the MAGA voters have had their fun and now the pain begins. I wish it was just them who suffered but sadly that won't be the case.

In 2018, I became homeless, the rent protection deregulation made it so they could keep charging more and more within the same year where I lived, after 3 straight hikes within an 8month span where I didn't get a raise, I was out on the street. My friends, some of whom were Maga were blasting me daily about how great the economy was, but I was staring down the barrel of homelessness and the price hikes were already starting then, because the tariffs forced our farming communities to take a massive hit, a hit so big that Trump had to actually give money back to the farmers to not destroy our own supply chain. Anyway, I had two choices where I could go.. Texas or California.. I was born and raised in Texas, but I chose California. Everyone told me it was too expensive it was a dumb move etc. I have stable energy that doesn't go out for weeks/months, I don't have surge pricing that sees me spending or owing more than my rent. My governor said he would fight Trump to protect us from his shitty agenda, many blue state governors understood and stepped up. Texas is just as expensive because of deregulation as California, the difference is, you actually get something back in California, in Texas, you're just screwed. It sounds like people want a new form of government. No democracy. If a person can't vote for whoever they want without triggering people so much that they now ended up losing friends over it, why are yal not out protesting every day for a new change? Why are they not trying to overthrow the government? If their lives are at risk, why are we not going to extremes to protect ourselves better? You lot let the same thing happen every four years. I don't know, but if I felt as tho my life was at risk over something, that sounds like justifiable grounds for extreme action to change the corrupt system. But if all we are doing is cutting off friends, this doesn't seem to change the most important thing at all, the core of the crying. People are going to disagree regardless, cutting off friends won't change it (but that does help people keep good ones around for them)... I'd argue that it actually might make it worse. So how many of you that feel unsafe and threatened, life at risk, actually does something beyond just sitting on the couch, complaining about people's voting preferences?

He messaged some dude he knows on the county level to ask him to tell him to “leave social issues to the states” but…. We live in a red state that’s Republican run in all 3 branches. The only way that will help at all is if we move to a blue state, which I’m sure he won’t do. He voted against my non-binary/trans BFF who wants to start testosterone and probably won’t be able to if there’s any federal bans on gender affirming treatment. So he voted against two of my kids (3 really since my oldest two are also half Hispanic) and he voted against me. @ouisel-df2nxАй бұрын
@michaeltalley51 Paine was a remarkable man. He died in 1809, so it’s slightly more likely that Nietzsche read Paine. It’s definitely worth looking up information on this man. ‘Interesting’ doesn’t begin to describe him - ‘Important’ is a better description. He wrote ‘Rights of Man’ in 1791 and literacy rates visibly spiked in Britain as people learned to read, specifically to read this pamphlet. His importance in the founding of American can’t be overstated. However because he refused to change his views on the evils of slavery, the rights of natives and of women, not to mention his staunch atheism, he died in poverty and largely forgotten in popular history. It’s very sad, America would be a very, very different, and better, country today if Paine’s ideals had prevailed. I’m not even beginning to do justice to his achievements, but if, and when, you have some time, do look up Thomas Paine.

I remarked that my red line is I am not going to vote for someone who is quoting Hitler when it comes to immigrants, or repeating a lot of 1940's Axis propaganda. For some odd reason when I brought this up they no longer wanted to talk about politics. I think part of the issue is that many of the people who voted of Trump want to be willfully ignorant the harm he will cause others. 🤤 mm yummy tears! On a more serious note ...Why are you crying? I want to hear about what Biden or Trump did during their terms in office that warranted you specifically fighting with your family, what event caused such disruption in your lives? Not your feeling, not that you're hurt over a bunch of people that you don't know or haven't met on the other side of the country that want to identify as a piece of furniture, tell me what happened to you specifically that warrants you fighting with the primary group on this planet that is on your side and in your corner....

@@denisemayosky1955well that's just the point and why Trump is in office....I don't care about your feelings, I care about reality and what is fact. And while your feelings are valid for you and I can certainly respect them for you, they do not apply to everyone else, nor do we need to stop and rewrite everything we're doing because you feel a certain way. You literally have people that are demanding extra or special privileges (Not equality) Because they feel a certain way and the bulk of the country has gotten tired of that over the years and the bulk of the country voted against it. If you don't like that, you should search your feelings and try to figure out why those people are so angry and address it, unless of course you don't think their feelings matter😂

@mrb6088Ай бұрын
I don't know if they've never faced consequences. I think it's more they have bought into this delusional movement over the past 8 years or so that they can NOW no longer face consequences. That is one of the things that draws people to Trump. His cult is all about the perception that you can f around and have a pleasant time. He is a person who has done and said a ton of horrible things yet can be so without consequence that he can still be elected to run the US TWICE despite all of it. It's a fantasy state for those who are deep down horrible people. We had it here in the UK with Boris Johnson. He literally started a term called "cakeism" meaning you CAN have your cake and eat it too. Surprise surprise you CAN'T and he FAFO thankfully. Their reactions to being blacklisted is a perfect example of this. It is very reminiscent of childhood where there's that one kid who is a jerk to everyone and causes nothing but trouble. Yet they cry when they aren't invited to birthdays or parties for kids who they harass or bully. Ultimately I'm glad to see so many in the US standing up for their own mental health and personal freedom to kick these toxic people to the curb.

I doubt any of them will learn "a good lesson in community", because they are incapable of learning. They don't want to learn - they've proven that time and time again that they don't want to learn, they don't want to grow as human beings - their behavior proves this. All we can do is protect ourselves, and trying to make peace with people who are either selfish or hateful or both is futile. If you care about others, you can't have a healthy relationship with people who don't give a single damn about anyone but themselves. If you care about others, you can't have a healthy relationship with people who hate folks who have never done a single damned thing to them in their entire lives. All you can get out of a relationship like that is dragged down and depressed, and there's far too many other things now and in the future to be depressed about. It's a dark time for our nation, but the only "bright" spot is that people you thought maybe you knew have shown you their true selves. And now you can take action to protect yourself from them. I have family in Alabama that I will never see ever again because of this. I have friends that I dropped out of contact with because of this. I refuse to get into the cesspool with them.
