To be fair, the 1st Amendment is very badly written. This is partly because the 1st is not legal code. It is "aspirational". In proper laws, everything is defined. Meanings are very defined. For example, the different ways people can be killed. Is it first degree murder, manslaughter, unlawful killing, death my misadventure, etc, no fault accident, negligence. ??? The 2nd Amendment suffers from the same vagueness and ambiguity. if it really does mean the unlimited/absolute right of individuals to own and use weapons as they please, that throws out all the murder statutes. And inded, that was what happened in the Kyle Rittenhouse case. he was found guilty of nothing. The defense used [or rather misused] the 2nd Amendment and the right to "self defense", even though the little entitled vigilant deliberately left his home, looking for a fight over 20 miles away. Of course, the little bigot was deputized by some fascist one-horse local cop-shop.

It sounds like people want a new form of government. No democracy. If a person can't vote for whoever they want without triggering people so much that they now ended up losing friends over it, why are yal not out protesting every day for a new change? Why are they not trying to overthrow the government? If their lives are at risk, why are we not going to extremes to protect ourselves better? You lot let the same thing happen every four years. I don't know, but if I felt as tho my life was at risk over something, that sounds like justifiable grounds for extreme action to change the corrupt system. But if all we are doing is cutting off friends, this doesn't seem to change the most important thing at all, the core of the crying. People are going to disagree regardless, cutting off friends won't change it (but that does help people keep good ones around for them)... I'd argue that it actually might make it worse. So how many of you that feel unsafe and threatened, life at risk, actually does something beyond just sitting on the couch, complaining about people's voting preferences?

British here - and yes, I have no problem with conservatives in general - the old kind that still believe in democracy, rule of law (not BY law) and the arguments and main differences are about how the government should manage the country best for it's citizens. However here - and in the USA, and even Germany recently - there has been a massive degradation into a right wing which is now throwing out the laws that protect us, refusing to be accountable and speaking the words of fascism even if they have not yet achieved it. That's how we got the dumb Brexit - sorry to all in EU about that. However, at least in the UK and Germany we managed to pause the rise of the right wing in our governments by voting recently. In the USA the power of the media and the lies told throughout the stupidly long campaign that lasts years (6 weeks max in UK) has led to Trump 2.0 and whatever follows for the USA and the world. I really think that the problem with the USA is that - apart from 9/11 - it has not really suffered war on its soil in 100s of years. They have fought many wars overseas and lost many soldiers in them, but critically that warfare has never marched through their cities, suburbs and capital cities. It's the only way I can understand so many US voters being so flippant and treating democracy as a bit of a joke to "own the libs" because they live in a zero consequence fantasy world in their heads. Politics is a serious business in every country and the right to vote is something that has been hard fought for over the centuries and is the only power the ordinary person has, beyond the rule of law, to change things for the better or protects that which is worth preserving. Now? Well the MAGA voters have had their fun and now the pain begins. I wish it was just them who suffered but sadly that won't be the case.

Thomas Paine (born Thomas Pain;[1] February 9, 1737 [O.S. January 29, 1736][Note 1] - June 8, 1809) was an English-born American Founding Father, French Revolutionary. Wikipedia
@ouisel-df2nx6 сағат бұрын
@michaeltalley51 Paine was a remarkable man. He died in 1809, so it’s slightly more likely that Nietzsche read Paine. It’s definitely worth looking up information on this man. ‘Interesting’ doesn’t begin to describe him - ‘Important’ is a better description. He wrote ‘Rights of Man’ in 1791 and literacy rates visibly spiked in Britain as people learned to read, specifically to read this pamphlet. His importance in the founding of American can’t be overstated. However because he refused to change his views on the evils of slavery, the rights of natives and of women, not to mention his staunch atheism, he died in poverty and largely forgotten in popular history. It’s very sad, America would be a very, very different, and better, country today if Paine’s ideals had prevailed. I’m not even beginning to do justice to his achievements, but if, and when, you have some time, do look up Thomas Paine.

I really needed to see this video today. I know someone who works with the Elderly and People with Disabilities, voted for Donald Trump. It is very upsetting because this person came off as someone who seemed very kind and very loving. I feel so deeply betrayed. My Mom and I both voted for Kamala Harris. When I happened to be in my Apartment there is a large T.V. in the lobby and this person also works in my Apartment building as well. I did not know or even suspect that she voted for Trump and when a CNN News was on, I said to this person, "It is scary. The new Donald Trump regime is very scary.". This person got angry and said, "Do not talk politics with residence!! Not everyone will agree with you!!! Good things are coming our way.". I was ASTOUNDED!!!!! Like my Mom said, "When a person seems so kind and loving votes for Donald Trump, I do not know who to Trust anymore." . All I can think about is what Jesus said when he was betrayed on the cross he said, "Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do.". This means do not resent them. In other words, I do NOT trust this person and I will stay away from her, but at the same time for my own emotional, mental, and spiritual health, I have to let go my anger and feelings of deep betrayal because I am now sick and I have having enough trouble overcoming this virus. It is the only way to deal with people like this individual who works with people who are vulnerable with disabilities and Elderly people voted for Donald Trump.

It's literally people getting out of abusive relationships. Because that's what everything is: it's a relationship. Lover to lover, bosses to workers, companies to consumers, people with power (priests, police, etc.) to people with none, politicians to voters. Lots and lots of different variations of relationships. But when it comes down to it, there are really only two types of relationship... HEALTHY or TOXIC. That's it. Call it by other names if you like but there are only two types of relationship. Good and abusive. Safe and dangerous. And in trying to not have this abusive relationship end, the abusers go straight to abusive tactics. Gaslighting the others ("it's not that bad, you're just over-reacting, etc.") or reversing the victim and offender ("why are YOU cutting me out? You're the one doing a harmful thing here..."). And that's the thing. How quickly they all slipped into these abuser's tactics. They didn't even have to plan out being abusive, it just came out of them as natural as breathing. So now let me address the MAGAs here. Don't like being called abusers, MAGA? Shouldn't have voted for a rapist pedo president that initially chose a pedo creep for Attorney General, a man that wants people to suffer. We know why you voted for him because you've told us. He talks like you talk. He's one of you. We know he is. That's why you're cut out 100% of our lives. We're kicking the abusers to the curb. That includes you and your abusive ways, 100%. [Insert a sticker of your MAGA self with Trump, and the words "we did this", here.]

I hope this don't get censored again. On a sadder note, I am disabled and count on social security disability SSI medicare and medicaid and food stamps to survive and if any of them get taken away I can't survive any more, I have one "exit" on my shelf for when that day comes, I pray lord above that it stays right there forever. Seizures and cancer without meds is a slow painful way to go out.

i know this will sound anti-logical.... but if you can find a church or soup kitchen it can help. (*realizing a lot of churches are overrun by trumpism BUT. the ones that aren't, they are going to become more apparent. and there ARE good people of faith out there and they voted just as hard for kamala as we did. if you want an example of a true leader.... our senator rev warnock of GA, just listen to him speak.) i feel like giving up, a lot like you do. truly. though i am in a different situation. i feel like something big is going to happen in dec. but aside from that.... please hang on. give it at least 2 years because by then we'll know if we can turn the tide back. community can help still the darkness, if you can find it. and people can help people. this is why i mention 'church'. if you've ever met ACTUAL spiritual people.... they look more like warnock and kamala. compassion, faith, a willingness to heal, protect, and care for people. you can tell a wrong church by if they trashtalk anyone. even if it's to talk about sin but like PARTICULAR ONES. the few places ive been that were like.... REAL... they are about teaching and lifting up. they welcome others, no matter who they are or the background. the real places do not judge or lecture. they try to INSPIRE. i feel most people have never actually experienced anything like this. but in your situation, sometimes they can help with connectng you to resources. for MEDS - you should look up buying them online from canada. my mom, a retired RN nurse does this for her inhalers. it's wild the price difference. that may help you out, friend. good luck to you. i hope you never reach for that exit on the shelf.

Gas prices have been at an all time low, and have been all summer. Today I paid .65 cents more for eggs. Their price reasoning shows how much they do not understand about how basic things like gas and food prices work.

Prices never go down. Not without serious economic destruction. Then,,, once it is over.. prices go right back up and beyond.

Covid put a lot of stress on the country and as usual when a democrat steps into office the blame is on them day one. When Trump took the white house the first time on day one the republicans said he turned the economy around day one not looking on what Obama did to change things left by Bush. There is so much rhetoric pushed by the republicans that no one pays attention to the details. Political sessions are like a sports team. When a prior coach steps out the new coach inherits the players and supporting staff that helped them be successful or losing. Once the new coach's plays and new players are implemented the team will still show it's past until those changes take over. Politics is the same. But no matter what, if a democratic president is successful or steps into a bad situation the republicans don't take ownership of how it was left.

If the only reason you voted against my rights is you wanted lower gas prices, you still voted against my rights. You don't get to get away from that.
