In 2009 we moved back to India from the united states . I was 3 and my brother was 5 . We didn't have a TV for a while as we were settling in . We had a CD of magadheera and I kid you not we watched it every single day for over a month , at least a few scenes everyday. Whenever I rewatch this film I feel like I'm reliving a whole era

Looking back at this made me appreciate SSR even more because Magadheera was one of the highest budgeted movie that time and it's miniscule compared to his ambitions and yet he somehow pulls it off. Its also gives a perspective of where he came from and how small our industries and markets were back then. Directors like SSR, Shankar and RK Hirani are the ones scaling the Indian movie industry by leaps and bounds. ❤️🔥

@@050138 I think the problem with S Shankar is that his movies go way too complicated for an audience to enjoy in their first watch. For eg., many of my friends didn't understand the movie "I" in the first watch, and I had to break down the plot properly. The sudden switches between flashback and present day is a bit jarring to the progression of the storyline.

I think your friends were confused because they didn't recognize the hunchback as Vikram 🤣🤣 I like that movie too, but reason it failed is due to movie not having repeat value (nobody likes to watch a movie repeatedly where lead character is deformed physically and looks ugly, even the way villains are killed, they look ugly too) and cheap comedy track Shankar has in most of the films (the transgender comedy in I was totally unnecessary) Rajamouli also had unnecessary comedy in his earlier movies but after Magadheera, changed his filmmaking to global level where everyone in the world can enjoy.... Tamil directors still rely on a lot of local jokes, cultural jokes and scenes which always don't translate well.... Also it is a joke if you say Shankar makes complicated films just looking at one movie I.... Sivaji the boss, 3 Idiots remake, Robo 2.0 were utter crap movies with cringe scenes.... Like how the mobiles fly in 2.0 and make a hole in the ceiling.... How can a mobile pierce through concrete, is it made of diamond or platinum? Sivaji was total cringe with Rajinikanth comedy.... Shankar needs to revamp himself.... His good ideas are either finished or outdated.... Most of his movies are about this vigilante who singlehandedly tries to fight corruption in system - Indian, Gentleman, Nayak, Aparichit.... Let's see what he does with Ram Charan next movie

I'm not Telugu person but I've seen this movie in Telugu with English subtitless so many times. I don't remember I've ever seen it in Hindi (may be because I understood it in Telugu and I didn't liked in Hindi dubbed at all). I think not. Sye is one of the weakest movies in Rajamouli's repertoire. It is way too generic, with the only claim to fame was that it was about a sport not common in India. I think SSR was still trying to find his groove back then. And tbh, Hollywood has wayy too many sports movies, and it would most likely be repetitive for westerners.

Ohhh! You missed "Maryada ramanna" movie of SSR 😱. Actually SSR did a movie after Magadheera before doing Eega. It is not some larger than life graphical wonder, but a rooted story taking you through emotional roler coster ride with fun filled movements throughout the movie. In the original cut, Salomon doesn't come to help him at the fort and Harsha ( male lead) escapes the fort with indu( female lead)by himself, few weeks after the release they announced that they are gonna add new scenes and they added scenes of Salomon at the fort helping him. I don't know why so many scenes were cut in the Malayalam dubbed version. All the scenes after the song including Solomon's character was cut. And he only appeared in the final climax scene, which kind of confused me when I was a kid. I knew those scenes were deleted many years later. I don't think they should have cut the scenes.

Initially I too thought like that. But later realized it's better they cut those scenes, which was quite unnecessary and cringe at times, especially that unnecessary comedy filler with brahmanandam. And that climax scene with solomon also felt kind of out of placed from the rest of the tone of the movie. I heard that it was not in the film initially when it released but bcoz of sreehari fans' demand to add more screentime and heroism for him, rajamouli had to shoot again and add it or something. I was only disappointed with them cutting some song scenes in the beginning(in that Na kosam song). But the rest they trimmed the movie well keeping the most engaging and acceptable parts to malayali audience.

The actor you mentioned who played Sher Khan sadly passed away 10 years ago. I really liked him too in another very popular Telugu movie called *Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana* where he plays the heroine's brother. It's a romcom/drama that you guys could a watchalong for (Achara and Andrew, since you specifically liked this actor). Lots of fun and very engaging story. It was remade in Hindi. After Magadheera Blockbuster success he did a movie called "Maryada Ramanna" with tiny budget and casted comedy actor as main lead to prove that he can do a film with low budget and lesser know starcast and still make it a hit.
