Correct me if I'm wrong, but with the Delphana Masters you could have used the white mana to cancel the enemy's resistances in addition to doing the block ability since it says you can use multiple abilities during the activation (which makes sense since it's a group of master mages) which would have made your block/destroy tactic legal. Probably best to come into town with a full suite of mana when you have them in your unit tableau. Maybe sit on a crystal mine for a turn or two (obviously being careful of time with the dummy player) to ensure you're fully prepped to use them to their maximum potential. So yeah, just one extra white mana and this whole turn would have been fine.

Yes, looks good. Delphana Masters are sooooo good. One of the problems you may face is running out of time... (it can happen.. see my last playthrough!) and you don't have the luxury to hang around. Great tips! thank you,

Hi thank you for all your inspiring solo videos… Just a quick question regarding city assaults, if I’m assaulting the red city which gives the broker ability, if the defenders already have brutal, does it stack, so do they get three times damage if not blocked? Cheers
@BoxofDelights4 жыл бұрын
my pleasure. Thank you for watching Andrew. And that's a great question: the answer is, they do not multiply. The cities just add effects to enemies that don't already have them. The only exception of a kind, is dealt with in the rulebook, when a Fortified enemy is defending a Fortified site - in which case it can't be attacked, even with Siege, during a ranged attack. Hope this helps! enjoy the game, Ricky.
@andrewpratt27334 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your reply. I only recently got the game after sitting on the fence for a good while because of the rulebook… Your videos have made became so much more approachable and it is, without a doubt, deserving of the number one solo game spot. Thanks again
@carmelthomson99175 ай бұрын
correct me if I'm wrong, but when you finished your turn halfway thru, then dummy player went, shouldn't you have retreated to a safe space, or to where you entered the city from? It's a bit of a grey area if you can stay in a city etc if there are still ememies there ??
@BoxofDelights5 ай бұрын
Yes, kind of; if your assault on the city doesn't completely succeed (like mine didn't: there were enemies still there), then you stay where you are, outside the City. So you will see for my next turn at 21:53, I had to generate 2 move to assault (i.e. move back into) the city again. You don't have to retreat any further, since the space I was assaulting from was already a safe space. Does this answer? best wishes, Ricky,
@carmelthomson99175 ай бұрын
@@BoxofDelights Thanks Ricky, yep I think I get it now!! I just didn't see you moving out of the city, but missed the two move you did do!!
@diggerocean20005 жыл бұрын
I'm new to the game but from what I see it appears you wouldn't have taken the city if it had been played through correctly. Don't see how you would have taken out that 7 with all the resistances, a bunch of wounds in your hand (on the 2nd city attack), and no units left to use other than the Delphana Masters which you used incorrectly. You possibly could have taken it out in the 1st city attack, focusing on attacking and leaving their attacks mostly unblocked. Not sure if you had enough to take out the survivors in the 2nd city attack.
@BoxofDelights5 жыл бұрын
I’d have switched to the white (enemy loses all resistances) or green ( Armor of target enemy is reduced by 5) of Delphana masters; so pretty straightforward as it goes. With green, leaving only 2 armour, 4 physical attack would have defeated it. Delphana Masters are pretty solid !
@BoxofDelights5 жыл бұрын
But yes, it would have probably taken another two assaults!
@diggerocean20005 жыл бұрын
@@BoxofDelights Using the green for the siege attack possibly makes the most sense to eliminate the freezer, leaving the white Delphana Masters to reduce the 7's (not sure what he's called) resistances works since you now only eliminate 1 enemy before the other 3 attack. So you'd have to block/absorb (2x3, 1x5, 1x8) instead of just the 8. Presuming your 3 units would all be used to block those attacks that leaves the 2 rage cards and red from the source to kill the now non-resistant 7. As you stated that still likely leaves 2 more assaults. Which then requires some luck on your final card draw since your hand and deck are loaded with wounds. Knowing that, I'd probably not block with the Heroes and use them to kill the fire mage, leaving only one defender to deal with.
@BoxofDelights5 жыл бұрын
this is why this game is so brilliant ! ;)
@TheCOMICCOMMANDER4 жыл бұрын
20:40 so you have to block 8 points of FIRE damage, you played an Ice Block 3 card then played additional +'s from other sources and it all added to ICE BLOCK together???
@BoxofDelights4 жыл бұрын
No; it's a good question: The ice block is fully efficient; the rest is added but is only half efficient. Does that help answer?

@TheCOMICCOMMANDER4 жыл бұрын
@@BoxofDelights Yes that helps, thank you!! I never read that in the rule book.

@@TheCOMICCOMMANDER the way to see it is that attacks in totality are not one thing or another; rather, individual Attacks played are either efficient or inefficient. Hope that helps! R.R.

Hi Ricky, Thanks for this vid. I’ve played solo conquest, many, many times with different characters and still not been able to do it in the time frame. I was wondering how you managed to get all that ‘influence’ to buy those units and also the spells etc with Tovak? That’s pretty impressive...Any tips?
@BoxofDelights5 жыл бұрын
don't be afraid to take wounds; focus on units for sure, by finding a location, make sure you defeat it, and then use your cards for influence, even if sideways, to get the ones you need. Spend a couple of turns not moving out of there if you need to. Good luck !

To this day, and after maybe 10 solo games and 3 coop games with my wife, I'm still struggling with cities. I don't know what we're doing wrong, but each time we struggle and feel overwhelmed by the almighty ennemies waiting for us in the cities. We usually take down the first city using the few spells we get earlier and some artefacts, then we are dry and we don't have enought time to beat the 2 last ones (even if we did discover them). Quite often the pattern is the same : if I choose to kill one enemy, the 2 others will beat the hell out of me (such the last night where one of them had a 7 attack with swiftness+brutal - thank you red city). So even if I manage to kill one, I had to rest the next turn, hence losing more time. I find this game so hard, and my cities are only level 5 and 8, I don't want to know how people do win at higher level. Funny things is that some folks on BGG told me that, for an experienced player it's almost impossible to lose at MK at the default difficulty level. This is then obvious : we are bad at playing Mage Knight LOL

Hi Ricky, love this series! Helped me tremendously in learning Mage Knight. Was curious if you ever sleeved your cards to the game? If not, have they held up ok over time? I don’t really want to sleeve mine but am a bit worried they’ll get worn out.
@BoxofDelights4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Matthew :) I don't sleeve cards. I do have dry hands though. Sometimes when other people use my cards they feel wrong afterwards to me.. lol. But no, I don't sleeve cards in my games. I tend to just treat them carefully, and do not mind if they are little less than pristine. So, as it goes, my cards are still looking great !
@fledge314 жыл бұрын
Ricky Royal thanks for getting back to me! And good to hear that they’ve held up for you :) I’m very careful with mine as well, and try to wash my hands before I play. Little late commenting on this, but I wanted to raise another potential mistake: when you opted to retreat and fight again, don't you take a wound for retreating, since you can't end your turn on that space?
@BoxofDelights4 жыл бұрын
Hi - good question: we attacked from a regular Forest space, which has no enemies and is not occupied by a fortifies site, so that is a safe space to retreat to; you only take damage if you have to retreat to a space that is not safe.

How many wounds can a single unit take? A unit of yours can take a wound even after it has acted or blocked, right? So if you have 1 unit block one monster, it can still take a shot that you let pass on another monster, right? So in effect, a single unit might be able to tie up a couple monsters, if you're desparate? Or can you only wound a unit that has not yet been used? City assaults.. I often just ignore them; sometimes you see a city with a half dozen monsters, and its just a case of OMG, you can't kill them all (and with the move; I think you have to pay terrain to move right, so sometimes it could be costly..), and block everyone whose left, without taking a stack of wounds; but I'm wound averse.. sometimes you just need to accept the wounding so you can kill the whole city, and then deal with healing up later, if you can.. limping along. Ahh, MK, king of games. Thanks RR!
@BoxofDelights5 жыл бұрын
It is only possible for an unwounded unit to take damage during combat, and once it is wounded it can't participate further. However, a unit might take more than one wound from effects like Poison. For these types of effects there is theoretically no limit to the number of wounds a unit can take. A unit can take damage whether it has acted or not (i.e. whether it is spent or not); so yes, it might block one enemy and then soak up some damage from another. Taking on those cities can get you wounded; but oftentimes it doesn't matter, so yes, embrace the wounds! Thanks for your questions ! R.R.
@StephenZipprich5 жыл бұрын
It only ever costs 2 movement to enter a city...terrain doesn't matter
@skeezixcodejedi5 жыл бұрын
Ricky Royal you can heal the wounded units?
@skeezixcodejedi5 жыл бұрын
Stephen Zipprich danke!
@BoxofDelights5 жыл бұрын
@@skeezixcodejedi you can, yes. You need Heal points equal to their level to remove one wound. And yes, it is 2 movement to assault "City" terrain - i.e. they don't sit on an underlying terrain type.
@simonrousseau23984 жыл бұрын
If I do a city assault in coop, do the second player doing the assault need to spend 2 movement too ? Thanks ! :)
@BoxofDelights4 жыл бұрын
Hi! that's a great question: yes, each player participating will need to Move into the City, either using 2 Move or some other spell/ability that lets them move.
@hh6364 жыл бұрын
Still don't get why Delphana Masters did not take a wound in the end. Enemy has 3 fire attack left and Delphana has 3 blocks with fire immunity. Regardless of how many attacks the enemy has, shouldn't Delphana take one wound?
@BoxofDelights4 жыл бұрын
Hi, no; with immunity, it means it can take the the first lot of damage for no wounds. R.R> The rulebook explains how this works: "Exception: If the Unit is resistant to the elements of the Attack.... First, reduce amount of the damage by the Unit’s Armor (without Wounding the Unit).• If this absorbs all the damage, nothing happens."
@tpa34375 жыл бұрын
IMO it's less confusing to count wounds using the dividing way : damage/armour, then always round up = wounds. Examples : 8 damage / 4 armour= 2 wounds 7 Damage / 4 armour = 1,75, always round up = 2 wounds (in your head 7/4 = 1 point something, so 2 wounds)
@tpa34375 жыл бұрын
@Jon 49 You're right you would need to susbtract unit armor before doing this method.
