I enjoy makeup but I’m here just to feel like I’m visiting with old friends, women my age, women who I can relate to, and just hearing about your day to day life, seeing your home and the beautiful area where you live. Just all of that good stuff. So many of us are dealing with similar life circumstances with grown children, retirement, etc and that’s what I love about YT, so I’ll watch whatever you put out because you’re so genuine and relatable. Happy New Year again. Love❤

Collard greens and black eyes peas is a traditional NY day meal in my southern family. I’m also 59, newly returning to makeup and do enjoy your perspective. I do watch veteran makeup YT influencers to see techniques but at the end of the day, at our age, we have to apply makeup with the mature skin (wrinkles, brown spots, sun damage, etc.) we have. Also, many of us in this stage in life share aging parent challenges, hormonal shifts in our bodies, weight challenges and desire to travel more. We are a community of women who enjoy your content in whatever fashion you desire to share. Happy New Year!

Yes, it is a Southern thang! I grew up in Georgia, so every New Year's Day finds us partaking in black-eyed peas, collard greens, pork chops or ham and cornbread. Feel sorry for myself if we don't have those to ensure our prosperity in 2024. Hope all goes well with you and your Dad. Travel vlogs are always nice! Enjoy them!

My mom has dementia, and my sister and I are her caregivers so we are running back and forth all the time to my mom’s house, and I’m still working full time so I feel your pain. 🙏 for your dad
@MaggieDe10 ай бұрын
Oh Kim, I feel for you, I feel so grateful that my Dad has a place of his own. I know that may sound harsh, but I just wouldn't be able to take care of him at my house. He is a war veteran and I did help him but doing MOUNDS of paperwork in order to get him a VA benefit that makes it possible to pay his rent. So I am very greateful for that. I will be thinking of you and your sister, and your Mom too as you do all of this caretaking. I can just imagine how hard it is.

Happy New Year Maggie! Love what you do. Travel videos are great! That plague- the gift that keeps on giving! 🤗❤️ I’m with you on the simplicity journey- but like you I love makeup and skincare and that’s part of my happy place. Those who struggle and share the journey are worth their weight in gold!

Hey Kathy, I’m sorry for some reason I didn’t write down what I was wearing that day as far as makeup goes. I guess I just zoned that part out. Thanks for commenting I appreciate it.

This is only my second day watching your videos. When you spoke about your father it reminded me of when I had to place my mom in a convalescent facility she was in the late stages of Alzheimer's. It was during the pandemic and I had to stand at the door outside I had to do a test wait 15 minutes then they would clear me to go in I'd have to put all this garb on a gown a mask and goggles. I honestly don't even know if my mother knew that was me visiting her with all that stuff on. But on several visits I walked in to find my mother laying there in a soiled diaper she had chronic diarrhea at the end. And I would have to go to the nurse's station and ask for someone to come and change her. I would come home so guilt ridden that she was having to endure that. Thankfully she was only there about 3 weeks and then she passed away she died 12 days shy of her 93 birthday.

Oh Karin, I am so sorry you had to go through all of that. I can imagine that it was very very difficult days for you. Thanks for taking the time to comment and I am sorry for your loss. I’m sure you still miss your mom very much.

Hi Maggie! I recently discovered your channel and watched a couple of videos which I enjoyed. But this video made me a subscriber. You're so "real" and relatable and I appreciate that. So much of what you said applies to me also,the love of makeup and skincare, parent ( inlaw in my case) with dementia, and the desire to declutter on New Years Day. That made me smile, i am the same way. I don't enjoy watching sponsored videos when the product is pushed at me and I don't like feeling that I need every new product that comes along. I think I'll enjoy watching you and your relaxed approach and look forward to what comes next. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Maggie! I always love a fresh start😊. 2023 was hard for me, but also a lot of good personal growth. Also, it’s great that you have a plan in place for your Dad. My dad unexpectedly passed away in July, but one of the most loving things he did for my sister & I was have a plan in place. He had given us a folder with all the info for that time & it really was a blessing in the midst of the grief.

Aww Maggie you've had it tough! I really hope 2024 brings good things for you and your husband, and that your dad's condition doesn't worsen too much, and that you can travel without too much worry. I love your chatty videos, and as Kim says below, it's so interesting for us to hear what you get up to, particularly for me coming from a super urban environment like London! Happy New Year!

As always, thanks so much Dez, I love your rumps around London videos as well. It truly is like a little mini vacation for me.

We have done black-eyed peas forever :) First in Ohio, later in Texas and up until today living in the Southwest. I never heard the idea about the okra - that sounds intriguing. I do love okra, but mostly fried! Pickled okra is a delightful relish - if you never tried it get some! Looking forward to seeing what you do with your channel. Will stay tuned and see :)

Thanks Maggie, new subscriber here 😊it’s going to be fun watching your channel grow, my momma was a George peach😊(myself and siblings born and raised in Michigan) New Year’s Day is always black eyed peas,collard greens 🥬 and a baked ham.

thank you for subscribing! I am southern, but my Dad was born in Flint, MI (apparently my grandjparents left the South to find work up there in 1929, but eventually moved back to their small town in the SE Missouri). Gotta have those peas!

Maggie, I love yr channel. And I know that you did have a rough year. I am glad that you have planned for yr dad. It is sooo important to make plans for your own care as well as we all get older. I don’t want to leave that kind of burden to my son. My two sisters and I shouldered a lot when it came to my mother’s care. I hate dementia. It’s a terrible disease. I pray that a cure can be found. And now my oldest sister is struggling with it. She’s 10 years my senior. So, I probably have that to look forward too….sigh….Is yr dad on any meds for his dementia? I am looking forward to watching your videos in 2024.

Hi Terri - sorry I’m so slow and answering this and very sorry to hear that you’re traveling the same road again with your sister now it is a very hard disease. I’m addicted to watching the channel called dementia with Grace. Sometimes I just sit and watch it and have a good cry about it and then actually feel better. Thanks for taking the time to comment. It means a lot to me and again sorry it took me so long to respond although I did read your message the day you posted it I’m a little slow this month and answering.♥️♥️
