As much as I love Def Leopard and Judas Priest Love Bites songs Lzzy Hale and Halestorm's song Love Bites (So Do I) Inspired Japanese Metal band Lovebites whose Melodic Style of Metal is reminiscent of bands like Slayer,Iron Maiden,Helloween, and Metallica combined with their own modern symphonic metal style of modernization the reason Asami went from being an R&B singer to sounding like the female version of Bruce Dickinsin I believe may be answered in her introduction to Iron Maiden being around Miho bassist/band founder and Haruna co-founder Miho's idol is Steve Harris Iron Maiden Founder/Bassist and also Harunas favorite band Helloween was also quite Operatic in style.Lovebites has quickly become my favorite metal band with duo guitar threat M&M Midori and Miyako. Midori also took 2nd place in a bodybuilding competition/ Miyako since age 3 was classically trained on piano and at age 19 with a guitar and advanced metal book learned by self teaching herself. They call her the Golden Touch she also composes much of the music while Asami add english lyrics (Having studied in the states at one point) new song Unchained talks about don't think/live free anywhere you want talking about dreams being far away (I interpret her meaning as go forth to your dreams) They just played Unchained live while touring in the US I loved the Dallas version best Atlanta had mike issues on the song. If you get a chance even if it's no reaction take a listen you will fall in love with these positive message Ladies of metal who defy most metal bands dressing in White/Gold greek goddess style dresses. ]:)

9:05 Rick lost his arm crash in 1984. They reattached it in surgery, but later had to amputate anyway due to infection, so he actually went through the trauma of losing his arm not once, but TWICE! While he was recovering, they got in touch with a drum kit designer who was able to build a drum kit specifically for a once-armed drummer!

I met him in the early 90s and just the sweetest guy ever. He lost his arm in a violent car wreck and within less than a month was working with England's best to design a kit that would let his feet on peddles replace the left arm...flawless. Got to see the kit as well although he didn't play it for us. Great memory for a now 68-year old man. I was living then, boy!

IF I remember right, the words spoken at the end with the heavy effects are actually Mutt Lange (pronounced Lang). The history of the four years they were working on the "Hysteria" albums is a saga of adversity and overcoming it. Rick Allen's arm wasn't even the start of the trouble. Mutt Lange had burned out from the numerous projects he'd been working on for so many bands and ended up taking almost a year off to regain his health and sanity. The band didn't gel with his replacement and tried doing it all themselves, to no avail. They knew what they wanted, but needed Lange to get the parts to click together. I highly recommend doing the album's title track "Hysteria". You'll love it.

My understanding is that after the accident, Rick Allen thought he would lose his spot in the band, but Joe Elliot and the rest of the band refused to let him go and delayed their upcoming tour to give him time to redesign his drum kit and learn to play.... it seems like they gave him a year or so, but I can't remember all the details. When I saw them several years ago, Rick Allen was playing barefoot, but I'm not sure if he that was a technique that he adopted and always used or not.

Good 13:18 , ok, long story time... so back in the day, (early to mid 80s) the rumor was that while the band was working with Ted "Mutt" Lange, he would record dozens of passes of Joe Elliot's vocals on every track and layer them to make Joe's voice sound thicker and more powerfull as well as "cover up" his pitch mistakes. A lot of people who know nothing about music were accusing Joe of not being a good singer. I never agreed with that criticism. Anyway, I went to see Def Leppard live on their Pyromania tour in 83-84, and they killed it. At the end of their show. The crowd did not leave and called them back out for an encore 3 times. Before the band came out for their third encore, the stage hands started taking microphones down and turning up house lights in hopes the crowd would start leaving. They didn't. The band came back onstage with no microphones and houselights full on and played CCR's "traveling band". Joe sang without a microphone and me and my cousin were sitting in the balcony stage right 3rd row, and you could still hear Joe's voice over the amplified instruments. 😅

Def Leppard is my favorite all-time band, and I saw them weeks ago at SoFi Stadium in LA. They exceeded my expectations, since I haven’t seen them since early 90’s. They are candy to the ears, and have tons of hit songs, and songs that would’ve been in the charts if they were released as singles. Yes, Def Leppard released 7 singles off the Hysteria album, and all were hits. “Love Bites” was the only song to go #1 on the Billboard Pop Charts. “Pour Some Sugar On Me” went #2. Fun fact: Joe Elliott said if they would have released an eighth song off Hysteria, it would most likely have been “Love and Affection.”

You used the words "musical landscape" and those are the words I've been lacking to describe what I hear and feel when I listen. This song, and especially Hysteria, are truly beautiful in their phrasing of the melodies and buildups. Also, that rock yet gentle idea you are trying to describe was THE 80's Power Ballad sound. On a CD called "Monster Ballads" they used the best phrase I've ever heard to describe it: "Every bad boy has his soft side."
