This multi use Fjellduken or 'Mountain cover', was developed for Norwegian special forces over 30 years ago. It is well known amongst military and bushcraft circles, but after I saw friends using one my eyes were opened to its potential for hiking and backpacking.

The Original Jerven Bag is the lightest of all four models thanks to its single layer design. The wind and waterproof outer material is available with a camouflage pattern, helping the wearer to blend in with a variety of environments while keeping them protected from the elements.
The Jerven Bag features zips around three edges, allowing you to adjust its shape as per the desired usage. This gear isn’t cheap but the versatility and quality is making it a tempting option. I believe there are two options and insulated type and the reflective type.

Hi, yes , but the insulated ones still have the reflective coating, but with 60g or I believe 160g per m2. Check out wild and moor in the link.

@@Fellmandave1 I realise now that if one has purchased the original (silver coated) it’s possible to purchase insulating layer’s separately and as you say in two different weights. A very versatile piece of kit, would cover so many requirements.

Like that it can be converted into a tent. However, as I civilian, do I really need such a capability? I would think a dedicated tent will be cheaper and more functional. Military though is a different thing, they definitely would benefit from it. And a sivilian survival - I would think a bivvy is more practical in a real survival situation
