Magic Leap 2 | Dynamic Dimming™ Technology

Magic Leap devices have additive displays, which take the light within a user’s environment and add photons to the display, making it possible to render content. The Magic Leap 2 introduces a new low resolution panel which selectively subtracts photons in the environment by using two types of dimming, collectively known as Dynamic Dimming™ Technology: Global Dimming™ and Segmented Dimming™.

why is tracking so shaky and not match up with actual head movement even in demo? is the product development in progress and the representation shown here is incomplete or inferior than what the final product could be?

I wonder how the refresh rate on these dimming layers are. From the demos in this video the general real world anchoring looks not that good compared to passthrough AR on Quest 3 or Apple Vision Pro .

We are at the stage where tech is evolving just because it can without actual utility. It's not needed but it's really impressive. Don't comfort our brain to this level where we can't perform or understand science and calculations without tech.

This problem only exists in optical HMD; why not just use a passthrough HMD like quest or vision pro

That's IF the cameras can capture the surrounding in less than ideal lighting conditions which may not be the case for some industrial applications.

You make it sound like passthroughs don’t have their issues - like use in low light and resolution that is just low enough to not be able to read through them comfortably.

Because that s***'s expensive, the level of processing required is massive, when you could just let the light through for free
