Violet Teacher was crucial in token paladin. Zombie was often used in shadow priest when healing was dealing damage instead. Joust was a great mechanic for ramp druid, who also used Astral Communion, because most of your minions cost at least 6 mana.

29:30 Another really important part of Unstable Portal is that this is one of the first sources of random minion generation in Hearthstone. Because there's very few "vanilla" minions, that means there's a good chance of getting a battlecry or deathrattle. A lot of those cards required playing around. This is where hand prediction went from "they should be out of steam since I played around their best cards" to "it's mage and they casted two portals a while ago, so they could have anything from a uselessly discounted wisp to a 6-mana Jaraxxus. Fingers crossed".

As a control warrior enjoyer at the time, and overhyped vor Varian, the card had quite a few issues, the main one that the "put creatures on the field" was actually downside. Creatures were either control pieces with important battlecries or win conditions, you didn't want to just slam them all on the field at random, making Varian's best ability actually it's worst weakness.

I think the take on Nexus-Champion Saraad is a bit off, and the Inspire mechanic as a whole. Think of it more as a bonus effect on top of your Hero Power and it becomes a lot better. Tank-Up Warrior wanted to be hitting that button essentially every turn, this card gives you a "Yeti" on top of more cards in hand without drawing. Inspire is a bit of a "Win More" effect, but it's not as bad as everyone seems to think it was

Violet teacher wasn't good because of oil. It was good because Rogue liked to sit around and then play all it's cards in one turn. Removing the opponents board, while creating one itself. This card was excellent for that. It wasn't popular in the previous meta because if you're playing all your cards with Violet, you're not playing them with Gazetzan. Oil is what tipped it over the top, because you just needed to create a board that could survive 1 turn and the damage from oil was normally enough to secure a win.

It seems like CGB forgot you could play Saraad on 7 to guarantee the random spell, 7 mana draw a card and deal 1 damage with a 4/5 must-kill body is probably on par with, if not better than, Ancient of Lore. Only reason it wasn't better than Lore is the random part, but Ancient of Lore was a nuts card, so a worse version could still be playable. Plus this gets bonus points for being playable on 5 as a 4/5 with super taunt, which could break the camel's back in a tempo deck where you're already ahead on board.

I did have a >50% wr with it, but I had an 80% wr with dragon hunter so it's not a great mark. My deck played astral communion as a cheese, but it was basically a greedy ramp druid with a 30% chance to basically instant win from astral communion on turn 1-4 and a 30% to win off of ramp like wild growth into nourish.just playing regular ramp was better tho.

Rarran saying that Astral was bad is just more proof that he is a Warlock, because it was a good card if you knew how to play Druid properly and in my experience Warlock and Druid are Di-pole opposites, if you are great at one, you suck at the other, and I will admit I sucked at Warlock, it took me twice as long to get to level 60 as the next slowest class of the first 9.
