I love the contrast between Silco and Heimerdinger. Heimerdinger is very high minded and philosophical, but he is very oblivious to the motivations and thoughts of the people around him. He speaks poetically, but does not really explain what he's thinking, when he talks. Silco, on the other hand, is very practical and direct. He is hyper aware of what is going on around him, and what buttons to push to get people to do what he wants. He also speaks poetically, but unlike Heimerdinger, he manages to pack multiple layers of meaning into almost every line he speaks. He gets his point across very clearly, even when piling on the irony and metaphors.
@n0bleonline2222 жыл бұрын
It leaves a few lines supposedly related to Silco's past with Vander. The words of each character in the chapters give us clues about either themselves or their past or life. Episodes 2 and 3 generally leave a lot to us about Vander and Silco. By looking at both the images and their discussions, there is a lot we can catch.
@Marta-uv4id2 жыл бұрын
There is a little detail a lot of people miss in the episode that shows what a truly brilliant strategist and manipulator Mel is. When she is introduced to us, we see her picking a perfect gift for another councilor, specifically a children's toy (which can be interpreted in a lot of ways), which the councilor finds to be the perfect gift. When it's time to vote about Jayce's fate, the vote that tips the scales isn't Mel's, but the vote of the councilor Mel gave the gift to. The councilor didn't plan to vote in Jayce's favor at first, but with a little push from Mel he gave his vote. It's a brilliant way to show us how resourceful Mel is and a way to subtly let us know that she is interested in Jayce's research.
@noremac72162 жыл бұрын
Who misses that? I watch quite a bit of reactors and I don't think I've ever seen anyone not pick up on that. It's not really subtle at all it's a very heavy-handed detail. And that's not a complaint not everything has to be subtly given to us it's okay to feed us every once in awhile.
@alarichrul66392 жыл бұрын
Actually, I'm pretty sure that this councillor was going to vote for Jayce anyway. And yes, Mel's gift can be interpreted in many ways. The best possibility - it's perfect for him to play a fool. Because hi is from clan Ferros and knows about Hextech even more than Jayce. He is definitely intrested in research. And of course, since he is a counselor he just can't be that stupid: he knows business stuff, etc.
@loco_logic2 жыл бұрын
@@noremac7216 yeah from what I've seen most people understand that detail just fine. Not exactly subtle.
@noremac72162 жыл бұрын
@@alarichrul6639 no the show really hammers it in that he's dumb as a bag of rocks every chance it gets. I mean it would be neat if it turned out to be a twist and he was just playing dumb but that would mean that he was fooling Mel and I just don't see that happening. Mel is portrayed as a reliable narrator in this situation so I think we can trust her opinion that he's a buffoon. That's why she got him a children's toy and he was impressed with it and that's why whenever she nodded it him he raised his hand even though it's obvious he wasn't going to it first. If it turns out to be a bait and switch I'll be very impressed but as of right now I think you're overthinking it and the narrative is doing everything it can to let us know about some of the corruption and incompetency on the council

@cavalryscout95192 жыл бұрын
Mel is a bit of a “rewatch” character: she’s subtle, so it’s a bit hard to track her motives or even what she’s doing, but I pick up more every time I rewatch the series. I will say that it’s refreshing to see a “femme fatale” who gets to be charming and manipulative, and the only reason the writers get away with it is because they have so many other female characters who are strong in different ways. I also think it’s cool how Jayce and Viktor’s scene in the wrecked penthouse mirrors Powder and Vi’s last scene in the ep. The scenes are back-to-back, and both feature a protagonist leaving their most valued possession (Jayce leaving just bracelet with the burned out crystal, and Vi leaving her bunny which was tangled in the wires in ep 1) along with some last words (Jayce wrote a note, and Vi gives her final advice to Powder). The difference is that Jayce thinks he’s got no one, so he’s just abandoning his crystal and his last words for whoever finds them, while Vi has Powder, and she’s gifting those things to Powder to ease the pain of separation. Arcane very frequently plays parallel scenes in Piltover and the under city.
@CrazeeAdam2 жыл бұрын
I mean if I was to compare her to another popular female character in culture it would be Cersei Lannister. Maybe she's not quite as evil or vindictive of course, but she follows the same trail. She plays the game and she's great at it. Mel's only maybe minor "mistake" she had was..she actually fell in love with someone when she meant to use them.
@ninjatoriumnova24832 жыл бұрын
Another thing that brings Mel up is that, even though she is all in on scheming and plotting, she isn't an evil, or even a particulalry immoral character. But then again, nobody in Arcane is just pure good or pure evil.
@Xanderj892 жыл бұрын
This show is so obvious with it's facial expressions, you know every little nuance was animated on purpouse so you know they mean something and nothing is left to interpretation, I find it genuinely interesting that so many people miss things like this or need rewatches. This is one of the most in your face, blatant, shows I've ever seen when it comes to wearing their motivations on their proverbial sleeves, it genuinely seems hard to miss. The sheer amount of reactors who think Silco randomly wants to corrupt children for example, after a particular scene where they go to extraordinary lengths to show you on his face what's going through his mind as he relates to the situation very personally, is honestly astounding. There are not many shows in any medium with clearer expressions to read.

Basically what happened was this: Remember how Vi told Powder that someone threw her bunny toy up there and she could never get it down? That's the toy she gave Powder before she went to Benzo's. Which was basically her way of saying to remember her but also to stay safe and smart which fits with what she said. And she's also the one who sent the capsule to Graysons office and that's why she went to Benzo's so that she would take the fall and keep her family safe.
@kamakazines49012 жыл бұрын
Vi had also waited for someone else to retrieve her toy and solve her problem when she was younger. Now that she's older and taking responsibility for herself, she has stepped up and solved her own problem.

@@kamakazines4901 oh yeah hadn't caught that.
@Xanderj892 жыл бұрын
This bit of storytelling is what made me hype up the show to my friend, also not having watched ep 3 yet. You know immediately that she is giving herself up, that she got the toy down as one last gesture, you hear her tone as she hands it over and says goodbye to Powder by telling her one last time to always remember how strong she is, and then you watch Vander recognize it when he sees the toy. It respects you as a viewer to not need to exposit what is happening, you just saw the enforcrers get a message that it's obviously implied she sent to turn herself in (presumably Little Man told her, since he saw Vander and Greyson talk about it), and I knew I was in for brilliant storytelling if that's the kind of throughline they can pull off in just 2 episodes, and that it wasn't just going to be a specacle for the eyes and ears alone.

One of my favorite scenes of the entire season is Vi and Vander talking on the bridge. While Vander did bring Vi there to teach her a lesson, he was also trying to direct her to what he thinks is the right path and comforted her when she needed it. Vi also opened up and laid her vulnerabilities bare, talking about how she feels because of the way Piltover treats the citizens of the Undercity and wanting her sister to have more than that. I loved their relationship before, but we truly see a loving father and daughter together in this scene.

Mel really bought a child’s toy and told this man it was only for the sharpest minds. What a Queen. Professor H has a point but also…. Anything in the wrong hands can be dangerous. Power, money, people, charisma, etc etc. So…. VAs: Marcus - Remy Hii Jayce - Kevin Alejandro Mel - Toks Olegundoye Viktor - Harry Loid Heimerdinger - Mick Wingert I think Vi really takes everything Vander says to heart. Last episode he gave her the speech about being a leader, how everything that goes down is your fault. And she keeps asking questions as “we” (what are we going to do?) only for Vander to turn it into “I” (I’ll take care of it). So it shows that Vi wants to help and fix things, but Vander being the parent wants to keep her safe and out of it.

@Baily162 жыл бұрын
@@ardel-4964 Was Powder really that unstable though? The problems only really start when Vi outright leaves her behind when going after Vander in ep 3. And even that decision only really rests on Powder not being useful in the field. Had she been given some kind of gun, even a non-lethal one, whenever they set out to do some illegal stuff, I don't think Powder would have had as signficant of problems as she had in Arcane, if any. Everything stems from her being perceived as useless, when, in reality, she was probably one of the group's biggest assets had she had the right tools.

Piltover is very much an oligarchy. The rich and powerful rule over the city and each member holds a piece of what makes the city function or makes it money. So Heimerdinger is head of the Academy but he's also Head of the Council in this instance. The Enforcers are very much the police of Piltover. Mel's character design is beautiful. She's pretty intriguing as well. You can see how Vander was trying to keep the peace in the Undercity and then you can see how Grayson was trying to make is so they wouldn't come down so hard on the Undercity that it would lead to war. The Vander and Vi talk portrays their relationship very well and for Vi it has just sunken in. The ending of this episode is so great. Some reactors think Vi was going to fight the Enforcers. The scene during with Vander and Powder kinda show that they didn't really have a close relationship like Vi had with Vander. IMO Vander was more of support and Vi is Powder's compass. The song is incredible as well. Dude probably shouldn't talk so much and explain things as you go along as well. I would give her the time to just take it in and ruminate on the scene and if she has questions or a discussion break can be taken.

3:28 It's really interesting how you interpreted his powers as changing the weather and not as teleporting them away from the storm. Even though I pretty much think the latter is what actually happened (the visuals made it seem like it, especially because they seemed to reference the famous light-speed travel scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey), I find your interpretation interesting. I've never seen anyone suggest it before.
@nerddwarf2 жыл бұрын
I watched, thought they were teleporting, saw them "land" on a mountain and I went "wtf, I guess they didn't teleport? Magic... maybe their souls went on a trip while he changed the weather and their bodies were just unconscious? Sure whatever. The Important Note: Magic directly saved his life"
@tofu_golem2 жыл бұрын
One thing that is communicated through dialog, but should probably be stressed again is that a few centuries back, the world was utterly devastated by a terrible mage war, and people really freak out about magic because of that. Heimerdinger is from a species that is inherently magical, and even he is afraid of it. Note: Heimerdinger's people don't quite grasp the cultural and social nuances of the world outside their highly isolated community. Despite his age, Heimerdinger is really naive, and I don't think he fully understands the the exploitation of Zaun that he is participating in by being part of the leadership of Piltover. Heimerdinger's name is a portmanteau of Oppenheimer and Schrödinger.

This was a teleportation spell which transported Jayce and his mother from the Freiljord to Piltover (Topside). After this Jayce was inspired to create magic (The Arcane) through technology. Therefore, it was very important to the story. Please take note, Arcane doesn’t mean magic combined with technology it simply means magic which is frowned upon in many locations of Runeteera (Their world). Ekko is the young genius whose nickname is Little Man. By the way, the Council, serves as the local government body of both Piltover and the “Undercity” (Zaun). Enforcers are the law enforcement of the region. They also serve as wardens in their correctional facility.

Heimerdinger's memory shows the Rune Wars*, that happened over 9000 years ago. He was there to witness it cuz he left Bandle City (the home of Yordles (his race), where time is perceived different) 200 years ago and help create Piltover. That means that 307+7-200=114 years in Bandle City for Yordles is about 8800 normal years... just for clarification cuz this flashback confused many people * "The Rune Wars were historical wars where the mortals of Runeterra used the World Runes** to fight each other. These wars were so brutal that they erased multiple civilizations, landmasses, and much of the recorded history from the face of the planet." ~quote from the wiki (And that's why Heimer is scared of the Arcane, and rightfully so) ** The World Runes are the magical objects that the Celestials*** used to create the planet, Runeterra, hence the name *** The Celestials are basically the gods.... OK I'm stopping here, u get the point, i can continue for ever... The League Of Legends lore is huge and awesome...

4:52 That is what's known, in the world of Runeterra, as a Yordle. Magical immortal beings of perpetual happiness and emotion (for the most part 😉) yordles are kind of like fairies that come from a parallel dimension known as Bandle City, accessible only to yordles from almost any point in the world. Humans (and otherwise) are quite scared of yordles so whenever they're about in public, yordles place glamour charms around themselves to appear more human-like (save for their small stature) though I'm not quite sure why Heimerdinger isn't shown with a glamour over him in this show

There’s something I should say about the Topsiders. Actually, a character named Ben Urich said it best: 'You get what you deserve'. It's an old saying. One that survived the years, because it's true. For the most part. But not for everyone. Some get more than they deserve. Because they believe they aren't like everyone else. That the rules, the ones people like me and you, the people that work and struggle to live our lives, just live, don't apply to them. That they can do anything and live happily ever after, while the rest of us suffer. They do this from the shadows. Shadows that we cast. With our indifference. With a pervasive lack of interest in anything that doesn't directly affect us, we, in the here and now. Or maybe it's just the shadow of weariness. Of how tired we are, struggling to claw our way back to a middle class that no longer exist, because of those who take more than they deserve. And they keep taking, until all that's left for the rest of us is a memory of how it used to be before the corporations and the bottom line decided we didn't matter anymore.’

The Lanes don't really have guns. It's super hard to come by, also they're thieves so a gun would be be useless to them anyway. She could be useful with a custom non-dangerous projectile weapon but if guns are rare, those are even more so, she'd have to build it from scratch and it's really not easy to get good parts around here (part of why she's struggling with her bombs even though those are a hundred times easier to build). Also you know that by now, but the council (and enforcers) have nothing to do with the school/academy. It just happens that Heimerdinger is the head of both the council and the academy but those are just two different and unrelated jobs that he happens to have because he's old and respected and a scientist. The academy is a place of higher learning, discovery and invention with the aim to encourage the growth of productive members to Piltover society. Vs her “putting on a show” that will make top siders hate trenchers more and inspire the underground to fight back against piltover. I also think it would make even more people lose respect for Vandor. Sevika already called him weak, imagine if his (adopted) daughter causes a huge scene before getting arrested and the *Hound Of The Underground* doesn’t do anything about it. I think he would lose control of his people. Of course that’s just my personal thoughts, who knows what would happen?

The one and only thing that always frustrated me about the show is that in this episode Powder showed what her true skill was as a marksman, and there isn't a eureka! moment where anyone is like "oh, if we just give Powder a slingshot, we're golden!" like that's where she shines, and it's just glossed over by the other characters.

Hehehe, Episode 3 is going to be a ride. Hm, so, you have already watched the First 5 Episodes, huh? Does that mean that you are watching the rest right now or have already?

I have a prediction...Montana about to fall for Vi, especially post time skip. ;) speaking of...for Montana..I'm sorry, I noticed that when Kenny was talking about "living with your family after something like that". I hope all is well with both of you. On the Council and the Enforcers. The council (as you guys probably already know from how far you are on Patreon), is basically like the Senate, or a governing body, much like any country/city has. The Enforcers are pretty much high powered police, almost more like SS Officers from the Nazi days if I'm being completely honest (although this doesn't mean all of them are bad, just that they hold way more power than the average police officer would today)

Just popping in to say can wait till episode 3! It's so sweet and wholesome. It's adorable! 🥰☺️ Also what would it take to get 2 videos for each show a week? 1 a week for the western side is so slow! If you did some kind of Patreon campaign like get to this number or something like that I'm sure you would meet it 😈😂💩. I'm am so sorry

bit of feedback: The music during the Patreon questions was a bit too loud ad intense. Not that I couldnt understand you but just too disruptive.

It always amazes me how the show's creators made it so no one noticed that Powder was insane from the begging, I mean she literally said this episode that she was making a grenade with nails in it, a grenade she tried to threw at the boy who tried to chase her in the previous episode, even though it didn't work, she still tried to kill him without hesitation

Note: The Mage actually cast a teleportation spell, you can see its the same runes Jayce uses in episode 3 to figure out Hextech, he is actually transportting Jayce and his mother to Piltover's region of Runeterra (the name of the world) as Piltover controls the small waterway that splits the two continents. It basically makes it Runeterra's version of Panama. That's why its able to maintain wealth while letting a good portion of it's population live in squalor, they dont rely on the mining operations that the Undercity was originally made for. It's main source of income is trade routes. I have to assume that Jayce and his mother were originally in Freljord which is the most Northern region of Runeterra and is this world's artic.

Why didn’t you put *Foreshadowing* on everything Violet says to Powder? “They never work.” “They will.” Powder being a good shot. “What makes you different, makes you stronger.”

I think you have to start paying attention to what you're seeing and what is being said if you want to understand anything that's the biggest problem with this reactions :/ I mean nothing is supposed to be confusing, so when you're lost every 20 seconds you should ask yourselves what's going wrong.

I don't think so. I could be wrong but I think she meant that in a "I understand but I don't understand" kind of way.

@@noremac7216 with the avatar stuff, they wouldn't talk over teh dialogue. With FMAB and Arcane, they tend to talk over the dialogue a LOT with theories when it's not that deep that the character dialogue literally spells it out. But yeah your superficial attempt to sound smart is cute
