You can listen to this mantra eyes closed yes, but, also, meditating upon the sound very focused on the energy that is coming forth from the mantra. You can then begin to chant the mantra to bring this energy within your own body by chanting it aloud, or you can chant it mentally. Also, meditating upon a image of Kali whilst listening to this mantra will help you grow closer to Kali. You already having your hairs stand on end simply from listening to the mantra is a good sign, it shows you as a individual already have a connection to her and her energy. This mantra remember is her Bija mantra, meaning seed, when a seed mantra is meditated upon it is like watering it, then it's energy manifests even more potently. The seed is the mantra, the water is devotion, concentration or meditation on it, then the mantra will bloom as a flower in the mind, body, and soul. You will become one with the mantra in a sense. I first called on Kali as a child and as by child, I mean around 7 years old. I didnt know anything about her or why this name kept coming to me especially as I slept. I had horrible night terrors as a child but felt protected when I said the word over and over. I have never seen darkness, and I never knew fear in Kali unless she was protecting me. She is beautiful in all her forms...my mother spirit. Kali is MA...the mother of my soul, my protector and who I run to for the comfort of her embrace when life goes upside down and even when everything is going right. Wildly enough I see the Christian God as Dad and Kali is Mom. From those I have talked to in the Hindu religion I have been wondrously blessed and that few see her and feel her as I do.
