The first time I saw the movie when I was a little kid, and I knew how to play the piano a little bit, I thought that this piece was recorded with two people. One person couldn't play that much. But it can be played. It's a tremendous performance. 👏

i love your humor i was thinking the same thing... when i try playing songs, i can only really do it when i'm playing left hand slow and right hand fast, and its much easier when i press keys on both sides at the same time you seem to be able to play both quickly at once at random intervals. it's... revelating

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful comment, it's true :) Is there anything else from the soundtrack you like to listen to?
@Sev_Auk2 жыл бұрын
@@SeverinBrast Sorry for the delayed response Severin, but I just saw your reply. Anything else I like to listen to? Yes! Absolutely! :) I basically love all of the songs from this film, but that's not very decisive, so... One of my favorite songs from the movie is, or I should say "are", "The Crave", because there are definitely two distinctly different versions in the movie. When the Jelly Roll Morton character is playing it, it's so staccato and precise, but when 1900 plays the same song, he muddles the chords with his left hand and foot, ever so slightly and makes it "dirtier" somehow :) Both renditions are great, but different. "Playing Love" is amazing in the film, but not on the soundtrack so much though - two completely different songs, one a solo, one orchestral. Watching it and listening to it in the film, within the context of why he's playing it and who is inspiring him, makes it so much better, in so many ways. "1900's Madness (1 & 2)" - Amazing! Can't go wrong with either, or both, of them. And, I must admit, I have a soft spot in my heart, even though I'm not Italian, for "Tarantella in 3rd Class" (I grew up in a very Italian neighborhood and have many Italian friends). Much like "Playing Love", it's better in the film, with the set, the characters and the build-up - Great stuff! Basically Severin, watching the movie and listening to its songs is way more rewarding than just listening to the soundtrack, as I'm sure you'd agree if you've seen it :) Well, thanks for replying and I hope I gave you some good ideas on maybe something to record and post! Cheers and Thank You, Sev PS - Been checking out your other posts and really enjoying them!
@SeverinBrast2 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, thank you for this in depth answer! I definitely agree with "The Crave", I've actually started this piece several times, but somehow never got around to finishing it. Getting proper sheet music for it can be a challenge in itself. Also because, as you mentioned, the arrangement varies quite a bit. In the 1900 Version, there is this distinctive "rolling bass", if you know what I mean, it adds a lot to the piece in my opinion. Will definitely have to finish it some time soon. The "Tarantella 3rd Class" is great fun for sure, they really nailed the atmosphere in the scene. Sadly the arrangements for two hands only can't capture the feeling well enough. I want to thank you again for your interesting insights and taking the time to answer me! You can definitely expect some other tunes from the soundtrack on here in the future :) Cheers, Severin
