This is why us old heads laugh when this young generation thinks all of NBA is superior to our players in our time. Jordan,Bird,Magic, Kareem,Olajuwan, and Isaiah would still dominate in the league today.

Magic retired at age 32 and only played 12 season and went to 9 finals. His last season he was 2nd in MVP voting and led his team to the finals. He had a lot of basketball left in him. With his game he could've easily played until 40. 5× NBA champion (1980, 1982, 1985, 1987-1988) 3× NBA Finals MVP (1980, 1982, 1987) 3× NBA Most Valuable Player (1987, 1989-1990) 12x NBA All-Star (1980, 1982-1992) 2× NBA All-Star Game MVP (1990, 1992) 9× All-NBA First Team (1983-1991) AIl-NBA Second Team (1982) NBA All-Rookie First Team (1980) 4× NBA assists leader (1983-1984, 1986-1987) 2× NBA steals leader (1981-1982) All time NBA assist per game leader Retired as all time assist and steals leader 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐

Yes..Magic was a 20 year old rookie when he Started at center, played all 5 positions in game 6 of the 1980 NBA Finals.....and won Finals MVP....the only rookie to ever earn that award....to this day! Magic had eyes all around his head! I was fortunate enough to have watched most of that happen, from Magic's third season on! (1981/'82)

Best leader in all sports for me. He knew where his teammates were all times and where they liked to get ball. If needed he could play any position he could score lots of points when he had to on top of being the best passer ever. He’s my pick when asked if u can build team around any player.

By FAR the best point guard of all time. There are serious analysts who’ve looked at it and determined that if you put the right teammates around Magic, ones that can run to their spots and finish on the break, that he is the single most valuable offensive player in NBA history.

He was my favorite player growing up. Deadly in the open court with the ball. Lethal in the post. Great defensive rebounder. Solid defense in the perimeter or post: Great in passing lanes. He wasn't a great outside shooter but he'd kill you from anywhere (literally) on the court with 5 seconds to go.
@ContrarianCorner
@ContrarianCorner Жыл бұрын
Agree with all of the above, though I do think he was a much better outside shooter than people give him credit for. Magic just rarely shot from the outside so he's not remembered for that. He also had that goofy, set-shot style that looked more like something out of the 50s than the 80s. I think he could have dropped a lot more 3-pointers a lot more if that's what he was called on to do, but his job was to drive the lane and dish it off... and nobody drove it like Magic. He was like a freight train coming straight down the lane. His style was so unique. We never saw it before and have not seen it since. Magic's style, skill, relentless desire to win, and magnetic personality combined to make him my favorite player of all time.
@jeffwatts1126

I had season tickets back in the day. He actually had one of the weirdest and deadliest outside shots. He preferred to make the jaw dropping pass, but when he shot, it was very sudden, and it came from the hip. If Magic had Kobe's mentality he could have scored 40 points every game. But he didnt want that, he wanted 20 assists. What a great time that was. Totally different game from today, soon as he got that rebound he was like a horse bucking in the stall. Push Push Push. The fast break was the default. The set up a shot half court game was plan B. They crossed that halfcourt line in 3 seconds tops, got the shot off with 14 seconds still on the clock. Nowadays it seems like they barely cross the halfcourt line in time, and they dont set up the shot until theres 6 seconds left on the clock. It's almost like they dont want to play....they only play when they have to, when the clock winds down

"What are we watching?" You're watching Magic. I was in attendance for many of these games at The (Great Western) Forum. The seats weren't anything to brag about, unless you like being near the top, but we got to see many of these plays live. Sadly, in the 80's and 90's, we didn't have the option of immediately rewinding it and making sure you actually saw what it was you thought you just saw.

Magic was IT back then! He averaged 20 points, 11 assists, and 7 rebounds, with 138 triple doubles. If prime Magic and Larry were brought forward to today's league they would run the league just like they did back then. Magic was a rookie when he played center in place of Kareem, and won Finals MVP. Larry was a rookie the same year and he won rookie of the year. That's how good those two were; they came in as rookies ready to win. The next season Larry's Celtics won the Finals. All told Magic went to nine finals in twelve years, winning five. Larry went to five finals in those same twelve years winning three. Magic won league MVP three out of four years in a row (Jordan won it the other year) and Larry won it three years in a row. And even today the two GOATs who have the highest career win percentage are still Magic and Larry, at around 74%, with Magic ahead of Larry by 10 games. That means that they won 3 out of 4 NBA games they ever played in!

thats funny you guys said he made that pass harder on himself. lol they say Magic made the easy pass look spectacular.. But BIRD mad the SPECTACULAR pass look EASY.. Magic is still the greatest passer, ESPECIALLY on the fast break, EVER.. but Bird was probably the greatest outlet passer and between the legs passer, and from the ground passer and probably the best tap passer too.. Magic got the no looks tho, but bird could do it also. dope reaction. Jordan Next?

KI & JDOT, 1. THAT WAS ‘SHOWTIME’! 2. YOU DON’T SEE NBA BASKETBALL 🏀 LIKE THIS TODAY, SO WHO ARE THE PLUMBERS! 3. MAGIC HAD PHENOMENAL PERIPHERAL VISION. 4. AS A 6’10” POINT GUARD MAGIC HAS ABLE TO SEE OVER SMALLER POINT GUARDS TO SEE THE FULL COURT & MAKE THOSE FAST BREAK PASSES!
@w.w.1348
@w.w.1348 Жыл бұрын
Until you've seen the Showtime Lakers; you don't know how fast a 6'9 true point guard can be. That team could and would run current teams out of the gym. Peep the score when Magic hits that long three. They ran like that night in and night out. Don't think that the athletes of the 80s and 90s could hang with today's teams.
@hshaughnessy17
@hshaughnessy17 Жыл бұрын
As a 6-9 PG, Magic struggled facing up with small, quick defenders. They could get up under him and cause him trouble. So he adopted a crab dribble style and used his body to protect the ball from those types guards. He adopted that half hook shot jumper to get the shot off quicker against smaller guards. Magic wasn't a particularly good 3 point shooter, until crunch time. During crunch time though he made more than he missed.
@futuretimetraveller8677
@futuretimetraveller8677 Жыл бұрын
nice try at the low key diss but that was some b.s. you said here... 3 point shooting was not a big thing then so ...very few guy were good at it back then and it was not a staple of the offense on ANY TEAM at that time
@hshaughnessy17
@hshaughnessy17 Жыл бұрын
@@futuretimetraveller8677 Lol, I wasn't trying to diss Magic in anyway. They asked why he had that one hand 3pt shooting style. I was trying to explain why Magic developed that 3 point shooting form. Watch the highlights. At 11:20ish he pulls up for a traditional 3 because he has space. On the next clip, he has a guard up under him so he shoots the jump hook 3 that he used. Magic was my favorite player growing up and I consider him the greatest PG ever but that doesn't mean that I don't know where the weaknesses in his game were.
