I find it so interesting that so many people say: "It's card manipulation" "Never showed actual cards picked" "Sleight of hand" Well, yeah. With cards, that's how it's done. If he did the trick with all the cards revealed, and face up, and moved at 10% speed, he'd be giving you (the viewer) the trick, and that's not the point. Well done, impressive, and so slick!

This is exactly what I'm looking for in a magic trick. I can watch it over and over again, and even when I *think* I see a kind of a move-type thing happening with hands I still have no idea what that move is or what it's accomplishing. It reminds me of the first Kostya Kimlat appearance (the upside-down cards), where I know intellectually he has to do *something* with his hands, and I can see that he is doing *something,* but I can't begin to tell what it is. Just beautiful.

We can see at least one card being pushed. 4:45 inserting the aces near the top of the deck. And then controlling them to stay near the top. 6:04 pushing the aces on top of the selected cards. We can see the aces jump past his right pinky. 6:15 inserting the aces upright near the top of the deck. 8:16 pushing the aces behind the 4 selected cards. there are two cards with an elastic band between them. he continually puts the aces between those two cards (natural break), and he releases the pressure on the cards which shoots the 4 aces right below the indifferent card pack of 4. when he turns all 8 cards quickly it's unnoticeable and he just takes the 4 top cards which are now the aces...great handling.

if you watch carefully at 6:04 at 25x you can see cards shoot out from behind his hand. Look behind the pinky knuckle, the one right at the connection to the hand and you see the extra cards, which are the aces, shoot out to be on top of the cards that were selected. you can also see on the first trick the stack is more than 4 cards. The aces are spring-loaded and are released on top of the selected cards. At the end of 6:04, as he is folding the cards out you can see a fat stack of extra cards at the top, these are all the extra aces. Freeze at 8:16 and you can see the ace pop out behind the 4 selected cards. they are sprung out of the deck when the selected cards are covering, then when he flips it over they are on top.
@tiborgats5 жыл бұрын
I've figured it out, by watching the relevant parts of the video frame by frame. He must have two special cards in the deck. Those are connected by a latex (or other rubber) stripe close to their top edge. If you push cards between them, and release pressure on the deck, those middle cards get shot out. So, it works like a card slingshot. If you step the video (using , and . keys) through 3:10, you can see the jumping out corner of another card below the kings. So there were at least a six cards (4 aces + 2 other) pack jumping out below the kings. When he puts back the aces, he pushes them back against the latex stripe again, between the special cards (where the latex is glued). Near 4:32, the aces are now held above the chosen cards in the deck, and at 4:32, you can see them jumping out above the chosen cards. At 6:04 again, you can see the jumping out cards from the edge perspective. Last time he puts back the aces faced opposite to the deck. At 8:16 you can see a corner of an ace jumping out just below the chosen cards. But his execution is perfect! Even watching back the video frame by frame, you can hardly see the jumping out cards. If this trick does not have a name in the literature of magic yet, let's call it "Hato Slingshot"! So a few month later we can search the magic shops' catalogs for it... ;-)

His skill is off the top of the chart! At about 4:30 and slowed down I think I can see what he is doing, but even then not how he is doing it. When he folds the 4 selected cards and rotates them around, he is somehow also pulling the 4 cards he wants with them and above them, so the 4 cards Penn selected are now 5th-8th cards. So clever!

There are two frames at 8:16 in which you can see a red ace peek out from behind the four visible cards. Furthermore, at 8:17, right when he flips the cards back onto the deck, you can see that there's a "fifth" card that's diagonally askew... likely the red ace from before. My theory is that the four aces are somehow gimmicked (magnetically perhaps) in a way that they can easily be kept together as a single card until the magician needs to fan them out... also explains why he throws them away after the trick is finished.

The aces are special, they are of a different thinner material that makes them stick together (or to specific cards, like one of the kings) and easy to grab out of of a squared deck. With that set up, he only has to make sure that the are somewhat in the 1/4 top of the deck (not at completely at the top, but still above any possible selection by the audience). Then once the four random cards have been chosen, he pulls the aces and the selected cards at the same time (so 8 cards), and puts that block of 4 aces + 4 random cards on the top. And the trick is done. You can see at 3:10 that he has more than the 4 kings, there is a 5th cards, but thinker than any other card, those are the 4 aces. At 4:32 you can see the 4 selected cards, there is a substantial gap between the top card and the first selected card, but the block that he pulls just after comes from cards which are closer to the top (the gap is much smaller). Again at 6:04, he is pulling some block of cards coming from the top part of the deck with the 4 selected cards.

If you watch the video at 3:34 you'll see that when he shuffles the deck, he doesn't shuffle them all. More then half the deck doesn't get shuffled and the cards he had on top stayed on top. Being a CCG player, if I saw someone do this in a game, I'd call foul and ask them to reshuffle. Watch how he shuffles the deck at 4:58 - 5 min. Again, he misdirects while shuffling and doesn't do a complete shuffle. At 8:16 it looks like an Ace appears behind the last card. It's a split second, but it looks like an Ace to me.

Keyword Penn used, *Block* meaning the random cards blocked the matching cards as he rotated it upside down. The concept isn't difficult, but the way he switches the angle confuses viewers perspective. Like you said, the matching cards were controlled the whole time and each time he rotated it over. The matching cards were always on top. Penn and Teller wasn't fooled. They lost track, they knew the technique. Just lost track and therefore he took the trophy in honor of how clean he was.
