Props to the performer for stepping out and making his act happen on a huge stage! The judges really loved it which is totally awesome. That said the methods are quite pedestrian and it's almost difficult to watch because of that BUT it's not for Magicians it's for laypeople so if they loved it...that's awesome!

My apologies in advance for the cynical tone of this comment...but despite the fact that I know absolutely nothing about magic, I abhor...NEIGH... I LOATHE the whole 'tell me when to stop as I'm flipping the cards' method that is commonly used to have the spectator 'pick' the card. You don't have to be a magic expert to know that this 'magician's choice' method literally gives the conjuror the greatest amount of control over what card is picked. Heck......it doesn't even require any sort of refined or dexterous skill to speak of! So right off the bat.......once you know that the 'chosen' cards are so obviously pre-determined....any 'reveal' after the fact is just empty window dressing and confetti (or in his case, pyrotechnics!!!). All in all, I have to admit that this is my greatest pet peeve when it comes to card magic! Now, the only card trick that has ever truly amazed and stumped me is the 'Berglas Effect' (Any card, any number selection process). Now if THAT trick is done without the use of a stooge...then colour me truly awestruck and impressed!!!

Imho you are absolutely right. I am a magician myself and I have allways been thingking, that many magicians underestimate their audience. But on the other hand, especially the judges of "Any country's got talent" are very easy to deceive. You can prove it by their reactions. Besides that, in this kind of shows, no one would jump onto the stage and debunk the magician. So we can assume there is a buch of people in the audience, who knew what was going on. Since I cannot walk or stand for a long time, I am doing close up shows, mostly in my customers living rooms. And I would never ever dare to use such easy methods (easy concerning the card "choice") as we have seen here. You allways have to consider that the audience could be at least as intelligent as you are yourself. ;-) I´m happy with your comment, because it confirms my attitude in this aspect of magic.

@@Musikpunx Thanks for your reply! It's great to get a response from a member of this profession! The point I was trying to make is that I have sooooo much more respect for those who utilise skill and ingenuity in practicing their craft. For example: I can pretty much tell if an effect is the result of a complex slight of hand routine (which I imagine close-up magic strongly relies on)... but even though I know that an effect is the result of that particular skill-set, I'm still amazed and awed at the tremendous amount of skill and dexterity required to execute some of those flawless techniques. I have a tremendous amount of respect and reverence for those conjurers who have perfected those types of skills to the point where they truly make it seem as though 'magic' is happening right in front of your very eyes. Even as a lay person, I realise and understand that a complex slight-of-hand routine takes a heckuva lot of skill, practice and finesse....as opposed to those other lazy techniques that anyone can pick up in five minutes!

@@Musikpunx I just checked out some of "RussianGenius's" videos as per your suggestion: You are right! I believe that he is able to flawlessly pull off some amazing effects using (no-doubt) some increadibly impeccable skills! The level of talent and dexterity he possesses shows in how he can effortlessly pull off those tricks in a manner in which your brain doesn't even get a chance to think about which method or routine he used to complete those effects! That being said...the only trick I was disappointed in was his 'stretching' cards.... it was painfully obvious that he was using some sort of rubber or putty that enabled him to pull off that effect. But other than that, I was utterly impressed! Thanks for the recommendation, my friend!!!

@@JasonParkerMagic All the typical stuff, disappear silks, pour out salt... One approach I haven't seen was disappearing a Kennedy half dollar. I do this with a folding half. I've also used the thumb tip in conjunction with a silk and two sponge balls. Load the balls inside a 12" silk so when you pull out the silk the balls will exit into your hand. Recapture the silk back into the thumb tip and hand the "silk" to the observer which is really the sponge balls and have them close there hand on it once the fell the "silk.". I'd have to demonstrate, but that's the effect to make a silk change into sponge balls into the spectators hand.

You are right about svengali principle, and that is actually the only deception in this whole performance. Other three are logically 3 forces and simple reveals. I also wonder if he had watermelon in all three or was it a magician choice with the best out happened. BTW, I NEVER understood forcing cards in this manner, when its obvious that the card is forced. I see ONLY point in forcing card when the routine is deceptive enough so the "how he knew the card" was at most third question that comes to spectator mind. And my by far favorite way of exploiting card force is when the trick has nothing to do with it, and you kick the end with it. For simple example: you force same card three times lets say during the whole evening , and all in a manner of "wow, this is weird coincidence" (just say it btw, as nothing important), and than, after you finish your whole set, you exploit those forces by some crazy "prediction" of the whole night events, showing you knew those "coincidences" will happen in advance. Stupid example, but I hope ppl understand. Whats the point in forcing the card and immidiately revealing it after two seconds?!? I stay by the rule "deception ABOVE ALL", all other, visuals etc can come after that. If theres no deception EVERYTHING ELSE cant save the magic. Also, the fact he couldnt learn some descent force shows hes lazy. I know it does fly by, but man, I just DONT WANT to give ANY opportunity to spectator to bust me. What if he watches magic also as apuzzle (as I do) and says stop immediately on top or waaay on bottom? And you cut it where you do? Especially as he did three times same force.... hindu force, never EVER I use those, or criss-cross (whatever its called) when we have like at least 5 IMPECCABLE forces, that are also pretty simple to execute.

I think his delivery is actually quite bad and does a lot of disservice to his act. You can immediately assume that when he does a trick, it is going to switch to a different effect. There is no belief or tension in his work. It is all flash and no class. I don't know man...it just seems not that great.

Pretty boring trick(s) in my opinion. I´m not a magician, though interested, but I have seen these tricks in some way or the other here and there. But I guess its spectacular to watch if you aren´t interested in magic with all his flashy reveals and his speed and energy on stage. So more kudos to his stage presence rather then magic-skills. The boring part is that all of these tricks is the same in that he has to know beforehand what they chose(fruit menu) and got(which cards).

Yes too right - l agree with you esp if she had just applied some Chanel No5 (KZbin ChannelNo5 obviously) or hairspray she might have got seriously burned or even spilled Gin on herself in the bar. But Australians are toughies so ... she handled it well ha! Excuse the pun. They've taken out insurance l hope.

I don't know why you want to make viewers hate Aesop, but it works for me.

Aesop. The _guy_ is a china Toby mug very famous in England for drinking beer out of. I think this was sarcasm as they were not _equals_ nor were they _best friends._ I think Aesop is saying ensure your friends are of equal or similar status to you because in times of crisis, when it comes to the crunch, they may desert you in times of need.

The card he threw, he got off the stage. Could have been a sharpened card, or even just a metal card with knife edges. But then again, not impossible with a normal card either.
