I don't think this act fooled them. I recall Peller doing some incredible productions of fish and coins that were absolutely mesmerizing, so I'm sure they got it pretty much figured out.

It was a brilliant performance but the show isn't called, "I tried really hard Us". No participation trophies. She was amazing and this performance gave her a huge platform to be seen and be able to garner more jobs from this episode.

As a former professional ballet dancer and career performing artist in music and dance, I can attest to the extreme difficulty of the technique of ballet. It is hard for one to pull off even when they may have spent their whole youth dedicated to it. She dances ballet competently, but with several technical issues. This is normal, even for many dancers that have spent over 15 years working at it. So, for her to combine ballet with magic, which also requires years of practice, is an exceptionally bold move! I wish her the best! Thank you Jason Parker, for all the great analysis on the world of magic that you do! Keep up the great work my friend!

They need a trophy for pure skill, not just whether or not she fooled anyone. There's only a few limited ways she could have produced the items, but the fact that it's nearly impossible to see her make mistakes is enough for a trophy in my opinion. BTW, I love the choice of music you made for your replacement too.
@WiebesProductions3 жыл бұрын
True! But the show still called fool us:)
@_definitelymaybe23323 жыл бұрын
@Peter Pike Well, I believe they should but providing this trophy to respect some magician's skill would be really awkward if they can't provide it to other magicians, neither the fool us trophy nor the skills trophy. Or maybe they would give it to all the magicians who didn't fool them in matters of respect but you know that wouldn't be so fair to the foolers.

For some reason that made me cry. There was something so joyous about her performance. Interesting she has a similar background to Jackie Chan. That Chinese Opera training really sets people apart doesn't it! I've rarely seen any ballerina with such stable poise so easy. The fact she can do the stream of magic tricks at the same time is amazing.

best non fooler ever. I'm not even really fooled, but this is the single most beautiful performance in fool us history. I'm actually kind of a macho man (at least in how I look) but I seriously have tears in my eyes every time I watch this.
@johnmay2563 жыл бұрын
I saw this the other day and was looking forward to Jason's reaction on this, mostly for the fact when I first saw it I couldn't help notice the large red and yellow flowers she threw on the side of the steps kept changing position throughout the act. Sometimes they're on the ledge, sometimes they're not. So it's clearly not been filmed in one take. But it seems like Jason and many others may have missed this error in the filming (there are a handful of commenters here that do mention it though). It's an amazing and beautiful act, Yan Yan Ma performed it so well, but these edits in the performance throw serious doubt over weather this could be done live in one take, e.g. did she reload her costume with some of the gimmicks and cards between the cuts in filming? And why, when you have all the time you need to film this to send to the Fool Us producers, wouldn't you make sure it was as clean as possible as the red and yellow flowers are so obviously moving several times throughout the performance...? It's so puzzling... It may have been so they could get more angles with limited cameras available, but when you have so much time to make a 5 minute video you would think they would spot these little mistakes and correct them with some re-shoots, just to make it less obvious it wasn't all one take. I loved the act, everything was so beautiful and mesmerising, but this little editing mistake took some of the magic away from the performance for me. Yet it has to be said she does indeed have amazing skills :-)

Absolutely stunning routine ! Really nice combination of ballet and magic, resulting in a truly artistic performance. These are all staple moves of stage magic, presented in a refreshing new way. The beauty and uniqueness of this act alone deserves a place in Vegas. Although the "moves" may not fool everyone, the routine sure as hell impressed most. Well done Yan Yan and thanks for reviewing this one Jason !

Holy cow. All of it incredibly impressive. Yes we've seen a lot of the tricks before, but many had to be done differently and yes 1 or two tricks if you watch super carefully you see how things were hidden/slight of hand. That said this is an incredible act, and I love that she did it her own way completely. Unique outfit, unique style, did it in a way that takes pride in that she's a female magician without coming off weird. In my opinion she is absolutely among the best performers that have been on Fool Us.

Flowed beautifully and at such a speed that you can't pick up on any of the moves - apart from one. If you watch closely at the beginning of the routine, you can see her right hand move to the opening at the front of her tutu where she pulls the first big red 'flower' from.

Shimada and his daughter, and grandson now live in Las Vegas! They are the true parasol act with production of hundreds of parasols on stage, many Japaneese face changing masks, and card manipulation!!! The Shimada's are on youtube. I saw Shimada in the 1970's on stage perform his first show in the US and as a little kid was blown away by his talent! His bold dancing moves are sharp compared to the ballerina's delicate dance! Both are amazing, and thank you for this amazing channel!!!

First of all, this was a fantastic act. There are certain points where you can tell where she is loading/stealing, but the fact it was almost all in the top of her tutu makes that part even more spectacular. One thing I learned from her performance though is that apparently they don't have rules that these socially distant performances must be done in 1 take because you can tell by the yellow and red flowers she put on the ground that she did hers in at least 2 takes.
@metamorphicorder3 жыл бұрын

Nice creative combo, while doing both ballet and magic simultaneously must be pretty difficult, I bet there's some synergy too; some of those ballet poses seem to provide for excellent excuses for loading. This one time.... at band camp. There was a ballerina who did magic! Jk. I literally had tears in my eyes watching her perform 2 arts and doing them both with such magnificence. I really enjoy watching magic, and enjoy being constantly fooled. While I've never watched ballet, it was AWESOME to see her accomplish both acts. Hopefully it inspires many ladies to... ummm... multitask! lol. I see Penn&Teller as being the type of guys that would invite her to perform in their live show for 2 reasons: 1. It was a very unique performance and 2. to appeal to women and get them interested in magic. Oh, and the third reason- they're some bad ass guys!
@RealitysSuccessor3 жыл бұрын
Beautiful and very unique performance. The ballet also adds a level of distraction making the magic even more magical. I'm thinking the new FU format is a COVID silver lining as the performances are more consistently amazing.

Of course they know how the tricks are done. They are professional magician with decades of experience. For those people saying that the artistic editing of the performance (and evident multiple takes) is evidence of “cheating” I don’t see it that way at all. Much more likely that she performed the whole routine several times, being filmed from different angles, and the producers cut them together to make it more engaging and dramatic for viewers at home. Bear in mind that Yan Yan Ma has won major awards for her performance, and that competitors on the show have to reveal everything they are doing to the show’s magic supervisors - they wouldn’t stand for someone whose routine was only possible because of camera and editing trickery.
