Love the album. I have a few questions. What synths and fx were used? Especially 14:03. Also how and where can I learn about making ambient like music like this? Every time I look around everyone gives the same advice, to just drown everything in Valhalla Shimmer, and delay. Ik there's got to be a better way. Also I have no idea how to go about making something this full and warm. My only guess is to record everything and use analog synths and gear, then do some mixing. Any advice is appreciated!

Hi, thank you for checking out the album and taking the time to write me. I don't have much advice as far as how to learn except to suggest listening to more people who are making that kind of music. If you want to become a good writer, it helps alot to read good authors and I think the same goes for music. I listen to a lot of Vangelis especially when it comes to ambient music. In my mind, he is certainly one of the pioneers. Most of the sounds on the track you mentioned are coming from a Technics SX-PR603 digital keyboard. It has a lot of sounds to choose from and various ways to alter them with effects. It was mostly a process of finding sounds I like and just playing around with them until something coalesces. During mixing/mastering we ran everything through VST's which replicate analog tape machines so it gives it some of that analog feeling. If you have real analog synths or recording on tape that is of course preferable but the VST's for that are pretty good nowadays. If you listen to Teddy Lasry's solo work, it's pretty clear it's done on analog and I don't think you'll ever get that kind of crisp analog that he has working on digital format, but again the VST's are not bad if you don't have anything else. I would recommend finding some good VST's you like or some cool keyboards with nice sounds you like and then process them through some tape machine VST plugin. You can also tweak said VST in multiple ways to try and get closer to what you want. I used a few other VST's on other tracks as well as running some synths through guitar pedals and fx processors. The last song on the album is mostly tinkering around with the mixing programs and processors in intuitive ways. Thanks again for writing, good luck on your music. Hope I helped you in some way and thanks for making my day listening to the album and commenting. Really appreciate it. All the best!
