Maglite ML300L (Accidental) Real World Review

Didn’t intend to create a review video but thought (after some whiskeys) there was some merit in sharing my thoughts with my mate who goes out with his dog at night and then, (after additional whiskeys) thought this might be of interested to anybody else looking at this model torch so uploaded it. Review Vs my 13yr old 1st Gen LED Maglite.

Maglites may suffer from something known as parasitic drain, which essentially means the batteries may continue to very slightly discharge even while the light is not in use. To prevent this and maximize battery life, it's been suggested that you can unscrew the tailcap to sever the full connection. Just turn the light on, and unscrew the tailcap (where the batteries are inserted) until the light goes off, and parasitic drain should be halted. But in any case, ALWAYS keep at least one set of spare batteries in the house if you are going to be using regularly, of course! Glad to see you guys giving Maglite some love!

I never leave my batteries in my flashlight. I remove them after use Incase of a leak from the battery

@@BEAN4182416 leak wouldn't really occure until flashlight is not being used for years. However, leaking will be prevented when u remove batteries once every 3 months.

Parasitic drain mostly affects flashlight with e-buttons so there is a good practice to unscrew the tailcap if it's possible. With mechanical buttons parasitic drain is marginal.

Maglites are more of a freaking weapon nowadays. That 4d you have is perfect for giving someone brain damage. Switch to strike bezel and the bust a cap glass breaker and you are ready to go to war 😅

Maglite is a ripoff. I have an old 2 Cell that I wanted to upgrade to an LED bulb. To buy one from Maglite, the shipping is 30% higher than the cost of the bulb. Sorry but there is no way that tiny bulb cost $12 to ship and anybody who has ever sold something online can attest to that. Aftermarket bulbs have mixed reviews, a slide-rule of prices and often blurry images, even on major retailer sites. Its just not worth it. In the garbage the flashlight went and I'll never buy a Maglite again!!!!

I bought the three cell version and man will it light up the area, it is 746 lumens if memory serves and will run on high for well over a day. It continues to be a great light. The four cell would give more longevity and a bit more lumens. You have to really almost double the lumens to see a difference.

I think you're thinking of it incorrectly. So nobody needs a 15K or 5K lumen light on for hours. You can think of the powerful lights as 1K lumen lights (same as your mag) with the option of far greater output as a turbo mode for shorter duration - like if you heard a noise far ahead and you want to see. Once you dont need it you can just click it back down. Also FYI, the output of the mag will drop as it heats up so its not like you're getting 1K lumens the whole time either. I have a bunch of different lights including the ML300L and I'd say the ML300L is a fine light but my Sofirn SP90 easily hands it its ass for the same amount of cash.

Hi! I only just saw this. Sorry for the tardy reply. Thanks for your incredibly clear comment - understand what you are saying. So far I have only used the torch (or any previous) for an hour max - walking the dog up the woods etc and also to be fair, we turn it off when we get to a hood bit of clear path that we can walk on without the torch , following the stars or memory of location.

From a person who has 12 flashlight check out the the Sofirn brand they make good flashlight for a good price. Notting wrong with maglite just nice to look around right ? I have more then enough lights but I still like to look around.

I got the ML300l and a ML300LX 3D versions, 746 lumen each, lithium ion rechargeable batteries. These lights have great throw, the lithium ion batteries last at least 10 hours on high continuous before I turned them off.
