I guess no one mentioned this yet, but the reason Dragoon reacts to Spike Ball in this game is because Spike Ball uses the same weapon ID value as Double Cyclone did in _X4._ This is verifiable in the May 2000 _X5_ prototype as Spike Ball is a broken version of Double Cyclone, there. Not sure why they nuked Dragoon's damage data, though. Incidentally, Zero's Twin Dream does 4 damage to Dragoon, but it doesn't cause him to flinch, just like Raijingeki did in _X4._ This can also be verified in the prototype as _all_ of Zero's techniques are left unaltered at that point. I guess they forgot to change the damage data chart for Zero's attacks, for some reason, though. Another bit of prototype trivia: Dragoon still has *all* of his vocal clips in the May 2000 build, rather than just the Hadoken one.

He plays the same animation as mach rex when he is hit with his weakness which is also a wind based weapon. I presume they just recicled coding for weapons and bosses and dragoon shares a lot with him, but spikesball might share coding with X4s wind weapon because of coloring, causing a weird conflict.

Spike ball, a plant based weapon is Axel The Red's weapon who is weak to fire and now is Magma Dragoon's weakness who uses fire? It's really messed up. Shouldn't Wing Spiral, a wind based weapon be more appropriate since Dragoon is weak to Double Cyclone in X4.

This is just a programming remnant... Mega Man X5 was made using the X4 code as a base, which includes the weapons, the Spike Ball was made using the Double Cyclone code, and consequently this happens, even because it is not possible to fight Magma Dragoon with special weapons without cheat codes.

Magma Dragoon returns in X5 only as the boss for the training stage for X and Zero. He doesn't have all of his moves from X4, only his Hadoken and his fire breath when he reaches a certain amount of health.

​@@unnamedlegeonso basically, if you've seen the Megaman X5 beta/prototypes, particularly the earlier ones were the X5 Weapons weren't fully implemented yet, Double Cyclone is in the same weapon slot as Spike Ball. Dragoon is more-or-less unchanged from X4 besides the removal of certain attacks. This includes the weakness weapon which is set to the same slot Double Cyclone was, which is Spike Ball. Evidently though, there was an attempt to curb this though since Spike Ball, despite still being set as the "weakness" deals 1 damage.
