Incroyable!

Christian Vander (in the Kobaïan sense) is like that cult leader that would gather all males to do as he please and the females to all mate with him lol. Unique drummer though. One of my favorites.

The title of “greatest drummer of all time” gets tossed around a lot, but Christian Vander truly stands out as one in an objective sense. Sure, everyone has their favorites, but it’s hard to deny his status as one of the most innovative and creative drummers ever. Not only did he pioneer his own genre, but he also developed a unique language and an entirely original drumming style. What really impresses me, though, is how much he’s continued to improve with age. The finesse and effortless precision in his playing today is something I’ve never seen any other drummer achieve-and I’ve listened to plenty of drumming legends.

Wow, great quality! This performance contains my personal favorite rendition of Vander's vocal introduction. Very clean and sermon-like. You really don't need to understand the meaning of the words to get the emotion and energy he's driving through it.

I discovered Magma in the 90s via progressive rock magazines. Then me and my friend bought some cds and were blown away by the original concept and the sound. Years later saw them live at NEARFest 2003. Still have the t shirt I bought from the festival and the logo is very well worn. I probably have the only Magma t shirt in the city or state for that matter

I was at Nearfest that year also and saw them again a couple days later in Manhatten at the Knitting Factory. Saw them in California a couple years before that for the first time. I wept the entire time, never been to a better concert before or since, the sheer power and intensity is otherworldly, nothing short of a religious experience for lack of a better phrase.

I found this video on the streaming service of the INA which is the French national archive of television & radio, they have a small portion of their catalogue accesible with a small monthly fee. I'm pretty sure you would be able to find more if you have access to their full catalogue, however, to be able to get the video file you'd need to be a researcher, if you ever come to France, you have public access points in a limited number of public libraries. Cheers mate.

Sorry I don't, I ripped it off French TV archive streaming website, I go there from time to time to check if they add new stuff, if you're a researcher you'd be able to get many recordings from TV & Radio in full, however, for private citizens like me it's hard, I should go back to uni and base my study plan on explaining Magma haha.

@@ZeuhlWortz Ah okay. I used to have this whole concert on VHS tape. I got it as a bootleg from one hard to find record store outside Dallas, Texas circa 1998. I used to drive 1 hour to get there and 1 hour to get home and the owner would recommend things and sold me some cool VHS tapes like this and Frank Zappa's Uncle Meat. It was the only store at that time that actually had a progressive rock section of imports. It took me many repeated viewings of this video before I really was able to 'grok' ie. understand their music. Still my favorite band of all time and saw them live in a few times. There's no better concert I've been to before or since. Thanks for sharing it here, in any case.
