Thank you for your detailed review of the Mag600. I like how you describe the pen and how you compare the experience with others. This pen seems to work flawless and I'm quite impressed about how much line variation you managed to get by normal handwriting. From watching carefully, I can see that you rotate the pen so that only one of the tines touches the paper. With all I know from my own experience, such a rotation almost always leads to skipping and hard-starts.

Interesting that you got dryness, skipping, hard start, and railroading. My Mag 600 burps, belches, drools and spews ink, unpredictably, to a point that it's often unusable. I appreciate your honest and balanced comments about this pen -- as you said, it's a good try, great concept, but not there yet.

It all depends on the ink. Sargasso Sea from Diamine is more "wet".

Hello! I have the exact same model. Wanted the green but love the red. I would recommend heat setting the nib and minding the ink you use. I used Iroshizuku Yama-budo (very wet ink) and it burped ink constantly. Once I changed to a drier ink (e.g. Diamine Earl Grey or Noodler's Blue, for example) it was perfect. I had to do a bit of nib polishing with micromesh and you may find it loses that toothiness. I had the same issues you had but once I did those changes, it writes great.

Thank you Doctor. I appreciate the longer writing sample which really gave us a chance to see the strengths and weaknesses of the pen. For me, if I want really great flex, which as you alluded to, is infrequently, I use my vintage Wahl-Eversharp Skyline. Excellent pen for less than half the price.

For that price point, the feed should work flawlessly. Have seen other posters mention swapping the feed; I forget the name of the site where they got them.
@MilatovichFamily9 ай бұрын
The feed is ok, problem is ink not being flowy enough.

Hilsen there.... thank you for your video.... First off plase this is not a troll but I am trying to help you... You are using the pen wrong... bouth tines need to touch the paper turn the pen 90° so magma logo is up that will help you quite a bit... you are putting a lot of strain on en left tine when you write like that... Second did you try heat setting the feed/nib? You do not say anything about it in your video... I don't have that pen but will love to have one it seems to be a wonderful pen. Don't think since I don't have that exact pen I cant help you with it I am a user of vintage flex pens so yes I am experienced trouble shooting a difficult pen... First of turn the pen so you have both tines touching the paper... Best of luck with that wonderful pen

Yeah, I wouldn't take any advice from her on fountain pens. She needs a left oblique nib according to the way she writes - my granddaughter writes the same way. Also, the feed flows better when it's eyedroppered, according to many people. I can't wait until my Mag 600 gets here in a couple of days.

Great video! Love the writing close ups to see how the pen really operates.

I am staying with my Pilot with FA nib. The feed came with pen works well. I also had a two-channel ebonite flexible feed standing by, but so far no need it yet for my daily writing.

First time seeing your channel when looking up reviews of the Mag 600. Your penmanship reminds me how beautifully unique an individuals handwriting can be. The problems you're having appear to be similar to the problems the Pilot 912 FA has. Would a 3rd party feed possibly fix these flow problems like it does with the 912?

I find railroading is minimized if I slow down a bit. It's great for writing letters. As a general pen I use my TWSBIs or Aururas or Pelicans.

I also have this pen and color. Thank you. It is super wet and uses lots of ink. I have not had hard starts but noticed you write with a heavy rotation from the nib’s split where the ink is. Try adjusting your grip.
@seanbennett-xf8qy10 ай бұрын
This is a soft and flexi nib so even more ink is directed to the nibs center as it spreads and provides amazing line variation

I agree, unless it's the camera angle, the doctor is not holding the pen right, and has turned the nib counter-clockwise so much that i am not surprised she's unhappy... in the UK, doctors are well known for having unintelligible handwriting.

Normally I'm skeptical about video fountain pen reviews, but as a physician (double board certified no less) you probably know more about fountain pens than most anyone else.

Thanks for the great honest review. it's reminiscent to my experience with the Pilot Falcon FA nib from the factory with the skips/hard starts. It just wasn't practical for every day use. I hope Magna Carta can work the issues out for a version 2 in the future.

Interesting that you bring up the Pilot Falcon FA nib... A couple of months ago I got the 743 with the FA nib (which I think is slightly different than the Falcon FA nib, but similar), intending to review it right away but I've just been kind of sitting on it... I feel like people rave about those nibs but for me, it just isn't great and I have been trying it again and again to figure out if it's ME, or if this nib just isn't for everybody, before I post a review. Anyway, stay tuned. :)

@@penprescription Thank you, I am looking forward to your Pilot FA review. I will add, for a modern flex pen, I am very happy with my Montblanc 149 Calligraphy flex pen that I've been using every single day as my work pen since I got it 4 years ago. It flexes reliably with the character of a vintage Waterman 52V flex nib able to do hairline to double broad, and it is super well behaved as an every day writer with no ink flow issues whatsoever. The only down side is these pens are hard to acquire as Montblanc stopped production, but the 146 Calligraphy flex pens are still available in places, and they are worthy contenders to the 149 flex, a little less flexy than the 149, but still very good. Montblanc despite being criticized for their prices, they did their homework with their flex nibs. They are the closest thing to vintage flex in a modern pen bar none. I highly recommend them if you can find one. All the best, and thanks again for a great and fun review of the Magna Carta. :)

Just an observation: It seems that the way you are holding and/or rotating the nib when you write in your example is counter-intuitive to the way most people hold a pen when flex writing. You're holding it so the nib tines are rotated almost on edge to the paper, not the way this flex nib is designed to meet the paper surface, so not surprising that you get the results you are experiencing.

It seems that the Mag 600 doesn't really address the typical downsides of vintage pens. So IMO going vintage is a better option, since it's cheaper.

I had high hopes for Magna Carta brand , but my experience with the Denima and Elements fountain pens was underwhelming. Despite spending over $300, I encountered issues: the Denima quickly dries out, seemingly due to an ineffective cap seal, and the Elements pen presents filling difficulties. This suggests a lack of quality control, particularly disappointing when even more affordably priced Chinese brands like Asvine and Hongian offer greater reliability. My interest in their flex pen remains, yet my past experiences and concerns about quality control leave me apprehensive. Regrettably, my two Magna Carta have been more ornamental paperweights than functional. This, coupled with negative feedback about their customer service and problem resolution, makes me reluctant to take the plunge on another of their products.

Customer service is very unresponsive 😤

the mag 600 magna carta has many deffects it seems according to reviews: deffective tipping of the nib may occur due to lack of quality control, ebonite black barrel full of micro scratches, leak of the pen with cap on, feed which doesnt always keep up the otherwise nice flex of the nib, grip of the pen is unpleasant for hours of use, customer service non responding, price too high for the general lack of quality, it is good that magna carta improves the quality of what they are doing as the potential is there , but spirit of perfection, attention to details is missing for the time being...

Nice pen and review but you are not an analyzing the problem critically. I see in the video that you're nib on paper Angle is not correct. Nibs need to be flat on the page. You rotate the nib longitudinally in your hand. Try the pen with the ball tip on the page such that both tines make paper contact at the same time. I bought one and had to return it because it drooled ink. Cheers, Dave

Your ink is bad and cannot keep with the feed. I suggest you to get Diamine Sargasso Sea blue ink, it is amazing paired with wet nib pens.

If you are gonna hold such an obtuse angle vis a vis the direction of writing maybe you are better of re grinding the nib to your angle. Also, this is a flexi nib not your everyday scribbler..
