Mahatma Gandhi never used non violence in times war becoz he was not mad he was rational enough to understand that when it is too necessary to pick the weapon you have to isliye 1942 mai he gave slogan DO OR DIE!!! please padhiye !!! He was not as non violent as you think and he never even justified his act of violence he said violence against the much larger violent force is alright !!!

At the time of our freedom struggle the situation was such that if we use violence against Britishers , they get the chance to suppress us by force easily. So non violence was the best weapon in that situation to unite our people and fight against Britishers.

Violence can never establish peace at any stage.If one finds itself in vicinity of violence,person should use his conscience more than anything.There is always a way other than violence but it demands greater sacrifice & courage.Counter violence even in the name of self defense will give birth to another reason for violence.Eventually it will lead to huge loss for both.
