Tossing the iron filings from our magnetic zen garden at one of its magnets to visualize the field lines of magnet force. www.curiositybox.com/
"How do you clean the iron off the magnet?" Good question. I would say that learning to accept the limits of your will is part of the meditative process.
I would also say that if you remove as much as you can by hand, something sticky can do the rest. The putty included in the box works well. Its adhesion to the filings is stronger than the magnetic force from the magnet. Plus, the putty already contains small iron filings :)

This would be an interesting thing to do in space, so that gravity wasn't as much of an influence. (In a sealed container so that it didn't pollute the surrounding habitat, of course.)

@@doctorthee if you get a wooden platform, put the magnet, filings, and camera on the platform, then drop the platform, it’ll act as though there is no gravity because gravity is effecting everything the same way. You could only get like 10 seconds though per drop. Also, you’ll need a sturdy camera

Try dropping the magnet from somewhere high together with the magnetic thingy, and film it from afar, then in editing, pan the frame as to always have the falling magnet and magnetic thingy at the same spot in the frame. This way it could almost be done without gravity

You wouldn't want to add this to the box due to the mess (and inhalation problems), but Powder form of Fe2O3 (red iron oxide) will show the magnetic field even better due to the grain size/weight of the particles (it's more akin to very fine dust.) You could dust if from above the magnet and have a continues stream going.

There was something very soothing there, Michael. Thank you for it. I've loved VSauce since I discovered it way back in 2014/15. Cheers.
