Magnetic Fields official bio:
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of its release, the Magnetic Fields will perform 69 Love Songs-the 3-disc masterwork that marked a significant breakthrough for the American band- for the first time in over two decades.
The select run of dates will take place in Spring of 2024, with performances in San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Greater Boston and Los Angeles.
The tour will feature all the players from the 1999 triple disc, including Claudia Gonson, John Woo, Sam Davol, Shirley Simms and composer Stephin Merritt, joined now by recent members Chris Ewen and Anthony Kaczynski. The Magnetic Fields will play the album as it was originally performed in the early 2000’s: in order over 2 nights.
To date, Stephin Merritt has written and recorded twelve Magnetic Fields albums, including the beloved 69 Love Songs and 2017’s critically acclaimed Nonesuch box set, 50 Song Memoir, which chronicled the first fifty years of the songwriter’s life with one song per year. New York magazine called the box set “a celebration of Merritt’s sky-high range as a writer and a player … a delightful flip through the untold back pages of one of rock’s most singular voices.” Merritt has also composed original music and lyrics for several music theater pieces, including an off-Broadway stage musical of Neil Gaiman's novel Coraline, for which he received an Obie Award. In 2014, Merritt composed songs and background music for the first musical episode of public radio’s This American Life. Stephin Merritt also releases albums under the band names the 6ths, the Gothic Archies, and Future Bible Heroes.

Come Back From San Francisco lyrics:
Come back from San Francisco
It can't be all that pretty
When all of New York City misses you
Should pretty boys in discos
Distract you from your novel
Remember I'm awful in love with you
You need me like the wind needs the trees to blow in
Like the moon needs poetry, you need me
Come back from San Francisco
And kiss me, I've quit smoking
I miss doing the wild thing with you
Will you stay? I don't think so
But all I do is worry
Pack bags, call cabs, and hurry home to me
You need me like the wind needs the trees to blow in
Like the moon needs poetry, you need me
You need me like the wind needs the trees to blow in
Like the moon needs poetry, you need me
When you betray me, betray me with a kiss
Damn you, I've never stayed up as late as this
Written by Stephin Raymond Merritt
