Tomasz, I totally agree with you wholeheartedly about the jig you have made in this video. Nomatter what our skillset is like and how good we are at what we do. I have always struggled with sawing wood and nomatter how steady i would be when it came down to doing this, for whatever reason I always managed to cut my wood wonky and it drove me around the twist 🤯😳🫣. I have no problem now with sawing wood and simply this is because i purchased a magnetic jig online and since it arrived I have been using it again and again everysingle time that I need to cut anything that requires a straight edge on🤔. This jig is a godsend in any and all workshop's regardless of how good a woodworker you are. Now would i recommend that you buy one of these or make one of your own, well if truth be told I'd say make your own as you can make it as big or as small as you want too, which in itself is a blessing !!!. As always brother 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.

One of the best tricks to cut squarely without any jigs is to... look at the mirror reflection on your saw blade, just above the cut line. Your piece's edge must line up with the mirrored image in the saw. Stop at 9:05 and have a good look at the reflection on the saw - you will see it clearly :-)

I think the comment or was referring to the reflection in the saw blade. It needs to look like the wood is continuing with the reflection it creates in the blade.

Great video! I have one I made, it is a lot rougher than yours but the cuts are dead square. I covered my magnets with that thin clear plastic all tools seem to come in, it just stops the saw sticking on the magnet but still keeps it aligned. I also butt jointed two small pieces in a 90 degrees configuration to use for cutting a lap joint in the vice. Hope this helps someone.

I love simple jigs like this, making a relatively simple but actually difficult task (cutting straight) a lot easier ... although I'm a little confused as to why you made two 'lips' to attach to either side of the magnet block, instead of just attaching a singe plate to the base of it ... still brilliant 👍 The one thing about Japanese saws I really don't get is why they are so (relatively) expensive compared to Western style saws ... it's just another flat bit of steel with teeth on it, so why so much more ... rip-off springs to mind!!

The two lip setup allows you to use the jig in any way, left, right handed 90 and 45 degrees 👍

@@CasualDIY I did realise that and forgot to say how that made the jig even better 👍 With regards the construction, you've misunderstand what I said about the 'lips' ... you've basically made a 'T' shape, with the magnetic bit being the vertical part of the 'T' ... you put two small pieces on either side of the vertical part to make the 'T', rather than just screw a plate onto the top of the vertical bit to make the 'T'! I'm not complaining, just wondering why you did it that way ... was it that you started off with just one lip and then realised if you added another that it could be used right or left handed?

I tried using my saw guide with a Suizan 7" Ryoba but the cross-cut side scratches the guide. I checked the saw teeth pointed 2 direction like a v. Does your saw scratch wood?

You would need a straight tooth saw for a jig of this type.

Sometimes I use my Japanese saw as its quicker to grab and cut. Plus not everyone has got a mitre saw.
