And at that moment, Magneto became my favorite character. He is indeed trying to be good on Charles' behalf and making the humans see that we all live in the same world and it is meant to be shared with everyone. This also gives me "Megatron becoming an Autobot" vibes and I hope that he stays a good guy instead of turning evil again.
@CCD29388 ай бұрын
In the comics he’s been a good guy for a bit and it’s been the absolute best change. I also hope it sticks in the show, too often it’s oh the bad guy is good for a bit then goes back to his evil ways. Two people in comics who’ve done it right so far are Magneto and Venom.
@jeffulloa2188 ай бұрын
@@CCD2938 Indeed. At the very start the X-Men were kinda about the ''good'' minorites, who wanted acceptance through peaceful means, even if it meant to not act against acts of violence against one's own kind (the X-Men) and the ''bad'' minorities who answered in kind, fought violence with violence, and thus were underserving of acceptance. Groundbreaking for the 60's (The X-Men predate even the Civil Rights Act of 1964), but eventually that message became outdated, and Magneto's ideals, once seen as too extreme, resonated with readers on the late 80's, 90's and early 2000's. So Magneto went from a clear villain, to an anti-villain, then an anti-hero and we're now in the part where he's between that and a full hero. Characters who have experienced as similar timeline include the likes of Venom.

Legitimately may be the best interpretation of Magneto in YEARS. Like...man. That "Never again" hits HARD. His crusade is a deeply personal one. He saw one genocide, he lived through it, watched as his friends, neighbors, everyone he ever knew were marched off to camps and slaughtered like animals. And now he sees it again. The hatred, the fear. And he can stop it. While his methods are extreme, I've found myself increasingly sympathizing with Magneto, at least as an individual.

There very often is collateral damage in fighting a war of liberation. Mistakes are still made. It doesn't make the struggle for liberation wrong. I never liked how often the antagonist is made to start out to have a good point, but whoops, they'll butcher anyone they need to, and often want to, in order to win. Therefore they're the real bad guy. Even though the current system kills 10-15 million people per year from poverty, war, disease, pollution. Especially when it's things like here, where he is targeting the leadership. How often do we justify butchering civilians as "collateral" or "we were defending ourselves." What is too extreme when you are being genocided? There may be a point that the fighting option isn't viable. But I'm not so sure what that point is if a war of annihilation is being fought against you. We have the term "total war" for a reason.

Had Magneto gone full violent on X-cutioner and the UN, it would probably lead to that kind of world in the long run. I actually find it very interesting that Spider-Man 2099 can essentially be an X-Men sequel universe. In Miguel's time, it's not just mutants who are hunted down, but even mutates and aliens, basically anyone with powers. The war made the prejudice even worse. This shows more layers to Magneto’s magnificent character. How he is for a world to live on but to honor an old friend he regarded most appreciation towards. He will go against his principles to honor what his old friend entrusted into him. Also this goes to show that people in power will not concede any peace, whatsoever, to people who aren’t a threat to them. Magneto showing that he can destroy them but chose not to out of respect for a friend’s trust, truly showed that he is a threat but will not be one if peace is done for his side of the spectrum

The Music, the dialogue, the stakes, storm losing her powers after sacrifcing her self to save magneto, all happening in the UN, with humans attacking the very people trying to save them, while Magneto struggles with the desire of returning to his savage self, while being kept in check by a late Xavier's promise. Only for him to hold his own panel at the stratosphere of the planet, to show them who is really in charge. X-MEN 97 is omega level content lol. 10/10!

Magneto here in Xmen 97 is probably one of the greatest character ever done in a superhero audiovisual product. He is not only powerfuo but insightful, you understand him, you see him struggle and try to change just to be thrown down in a cell and see his own destroyed as he once had so he refuses to do that and as he says: "never again"

It really is. Most of the justice our species has ever experienced, only happens when the oppressed become a clear and present threat. When they gain the power to challenge their oppressors directly, or prove that the fight to crush them would be so costly and terrible, the oppressor realizes just letting them have what they want is the more convenient path.

Magneto gave the UN a little taste of his power, at the brink of death he gave speeches about Prof X dream to unite all humans and mutants. Also telling the UN what his older self would’ve done after seeing humans hurting or killing mutants, he stopped and kind of warned them not to push any further. A villain became the hero, great writing there Marvel.

"Never again." For those who don't know, Magneto is Jewish, and a survivor of the Holocaust - the one where six million Jews, as well as countless others the Nazis viewed as undesirable - were systematically slaughtered. He was even shown in certain media to have been imprisoned in a concentration camp as a boy. So when Magneto saw his fellow mutants being persecuted, he saw history being repeated. Only this time, he chose to do what he thought was right - fight back.
@Xerxes20057 ай бұрын
And became the exact mirror of the Nazi who persecuted him.
@robertoj.95097 ай бұрын
Magneto didn't "fight back", he actually became the Nazi. He understood that it was either them or the mutants, and he preferred to allied with the Mutants. Magneto understands society better than anyone else, because it's impossible to mix two cultures and expect them to live happily ever after. Not once has happened that in any part of the world. People tend to forget that part, and assume X-men topic is about liberation, and minorities, and racism, when in reality was (nowadays bad writers are making it woke), but back in the day X-men was about how the world works. This is not about racism or xenophobia, because people have every right to fear mutants. I mean, it's not like "Oh, you were born black we hate you." It's more like "Oh, this little kid just blew an entire mall and killed thousands of people by accident... She should really find a way to stop that, how about we kill/nullify/imprison/control them?" Do you see the difference?
