Another 4 months and six days and we will be able to listen to this Magnificat à ton royal again. I hope bishop, choir and organ sing a solemn Te Deum, and end with this Magnificat.

Magnificat anima mea Dominum Et exsultavit spiritus meus in Deo salutari meo. Fecit potentiam in bracchio suo, dispersit superbos mente cordis sui. Amen.

What you hear is compliant with the oldest codification of liturgical practice by Clemens VIIII, sung in a way that was loved and influenced by the kings of France (faux-bourdon), ad alternatim and in Gregorian “ton” that is linked the the Notre Dame since 1600. Faux-bourdon was seen as more solemn than polyphonic. It is the tradition of the Notre Dame to sing this Magnificat at the vespres at solemn occasions. It places the ceremony in a lineage that goes back to the 1600, linking the time of the kings, emperors and presidents. I hope they will continue this tradition.
