Mihrimah in real life was as strong as in series, however she became Valide Sultan and had Nurbanu under control in topkapi as mihrimah ruled harem , had the treasure and lived in Valide Sultan's apartment. Even after Nurbanu became valide sultan, she did not have full power nor full influence until Mihrimah passed away and always used to bow to Mihrimah. There were two Valide's, the elder aunt Valide and the young Valide... mihrimah as elder had more influence.

I sometimes wonder, with the death of Hatice, if maybe (in the show) Suleiman began to think that Hurrem was telling the truth the entire time and he'd been wrong to trust his family over her so many times or something along those lines, to find out Hatice had been working against him for years and so on. In a way, it somewhat reminds me of The Story of Yanxi Palace, a concubine rising up to be the most powerful woman because the Emperor loved her, except with that story, the concubine proved herself over and over to the point where the Emperor swore that anyone who tried to spread lies to separate them would die without mercy or pardon, he'd trust her over all others. I almost wish we'd seen a little more of that with Suleiman, just for how much trouble his family would have been in earlier on. Sad to think if they'd all been kinder to Hurrem none of their downfalls would have happened.
