After the birth of her first son, Hurrem was so busy digging ditches for Mustafa that she did not realize that her own sons had become enemies of each other. And after Mustafa's death, when she felt that all her sons would be live happily with each other, one of her sons died within 40 days of Mustafa's death, while a great struggle between her two surviving sons for power began in which one of her sons spent two years as a refugee in the enemy's land along with his family in exile. And finally killed by his own brother along with his sons. Mustafa was buried with official honors. While Bayazid was buried in a lonely place. May Allah protect everyone from such a bad end.

True, the first time i saw the series i was so sad for him, especially as a child, and then when he took his own children down with him. i Feel sadness for him, but only he chose that path, I dont understand the anger and hate he felt for Selim, of course we all have sibling rivalry but he was so beyond that, mustafa and mahidbran also to blame as mustafa acted like an innocent man but he was cunning and manipulating. Beyazid was a very innocent young man, and deserves all the sympathy of the world. At most, he was gaslighter, with narcissistic tendencies. But Şehzade Beyazid had a long list of mistakes, that he just refused to accept. Because of his ego, thousands of people died in meaningless conflicts. Even Mustafa didn't cause this loss of life in his lifetime. Even as a child, he eloped to go to war. Maybe he was too young to understand the implications of how that endangered himself (and Empire by extension). But as a royal child he had to have known that, whosoever helped him (his friend) or he eluded (his teachers/caretakers) would be executed without a doubt. Hurrem tried to explain to him, but he never learned. The only lesson he learned from that incident was that adults ruined his good fun of escaping to army, having a grand adventure, and showing Selim up. SMH

His father Selim the Grim massacred his own father and his brothers for throne, also sent his sole surviving son Suleiman the lamb (as he was called by the Europeans) a poisonous kaftan. Mad Mustafa has multiple tales of cruelty. People never judge the blatant murderers, but only those who show remorse.

Time for my opinion after watching the show as-is (read the previous two phrases again): 1. The last set of episodes are very depressing starting with Hurrem's death and now Bayezid and his sons. 2. Bayezid was very rash and had anger management issues which clouded his decision making skills (This was what that Persian ruler exactly said that a ruler does not allow anger to cloud his decisions). He was making one bad decision after the other, does not sense what was going on especially when Lala switched sides (it was unexpected, but sadly Hurrem's wisdom and intelligence never rubbed Bayezid. If she was around for a bit longer with her illness, she would have figured out that Lala had snitched on her son) and to top it all runs off to the enemy when things got worse - taking assistance of your kingdom's enemy is treason no matter whatever the intent is. But full props to him for at least trying all possible odds to survive along with his sons (unlike Mustafa, who jeopardized his son's safety and prioritized being a good son to his constantly paranoid dad. His circumstances were slightly different, but again lacked foresight). To sum up, Mustafa and Bayezid doomed themselves because of their lack of foresight. 3. Selim actually had common sense, but was not really great in the brains department as well. He laid low, blindly obeyed his dad, and took the advice of all those around him (these people around him had other ulterior gains because of him being the king starting with Nurbanu). This common sense was the only thing that ensured he survived. 4. Suleiman - this man was so paranoid about his father and not wanted to turn like him, yet ends up killing two of his sons without even investigating what went on (Mustafa's alleged treason and the dress fiasco - which spiraled so out of control). Waiting for the finale episode to comment on what I felt about this show as a whole.

What cud have beyazid done? Suleiman was favoring selim more as he was a doormat. Beyazid knew what happened to mustafa lest he should wait for his destiny. He had to arrange a coup from outside only he should have been smarter to heavily bribe the shah. Men around him who also were around mustafa were brave but definitely not smart advisors

@@EloraSelah if you remember even Hurrem has to swallow her pride. When she has to bow down to Mustafa even though she wasn’t at fault. She had to apologize to him after been humiliated by he and his mother. Then again she had to bow down to mahidrabn and apologize to her That was the day Hurrem changed and swore to make they all pay. It is hard. But sometimes that is what you have to do.

Good summary, works for me. Also, about Mustafa: Hurrem actually set this scenario up unwittingly. Back in the day, she was so fixated on getting rid of Mustafa that she was totally blinded and had no idea that his death would set up the conflict between Selim and Bayezid. She practically made the conflict inevitable once Mustafa's restraining influence was gone. Her daughter tried to warn her of just that happening in an earlier episode, but Hurrem didn't listen. You just never know how decisions made today will affect what happens tomorrow.

Hurrem wouldn't have figured out that Lala switched sides, because...Lala only switched sides after being absolutely sure that Hurrem had terminal disease with little time left. If he wasn't so sure, he wouldn't ever have switched sides for two reasons: 1. He was scared of Hurrem (obviously). 2. Without Hurrem to steady him, Beyazid wasn't a good candidate to throne for the reasons you mentioned. Bottom line: slightly incompetent, but level headed person can participate and win in the game of thrones; but even the perfect candidate can not make it if they are tempestuous, irrational and delusional like Beyazid.

A very nuanced scene at 34:16. The sultan is reading "The Prince" , a 16th century masterpiece by the great Italian renaissance era political theorist, Niccolo Machiavelli. In this book, he suggests that in the rise and fall of empires, princes can resort to any means to achieve power, however immoral it may seem. Very appropriate for this episode and If I may say, a touch of genius to showcase the book in this episode of a fall of a righteous prince (Beyazid) and the rise of a cunning prince (Selim)

Regardless of how much the shezades loved their brothers, it all changes when one becomes Sultan. Even if the sultan wants to keep his brothers alive, his enemies find it as a weakness and incite one of the shehzades to use against the sultan to start a rebellion. Especially if it's half-brothers, it's impossible to trust them and keep them alive, since their mothers would want their own son on the throne and not their stepson. In the Kosem series, Murad kills his own brothers who he grew up with, despite his mother trying to prevent it, because the Janisarries tried to use his brothers to revolt against him. In the Ottoman way of things, keeping a brother alive and free is really hard. The Kafes method was also a depressing one and I think death is better than that.

I think a King should have married a princess, had lots of children with her, and focused on raising those children well. A royal woman wouldn't have to struggle with so much schemes and plots like a slave concubine needed to, and would hence be a much better mother. Yes, powerful men usually like possessing multiple women, but multiple women always lead to internal struggles, jealousy and hatred amongst their children. Having lots of sons with just one good princess would have been an ideal situation. The Ottoman sultans used to marry royal women, but they later stopped because they didn't like their wife's side of the family interfering or potentially giving support to one of their sons against them.
