When the theme first starts with the tinkling pianos, that is one of my favorite passages in all music. It is delightful and is enough to get an old Aussie dancing for a pig.

Never get tired of listening to this awesome performance. Saint-Saens must have had the hand of God guiding him as he composed.

Spanish interpreting French musicians and viceversa can make this hyper emotional marvel. Thanks Camile Saint-Saëns!

Mobilizes every instrument he has and sends them into battle - one of the fightingest pieces of music I have ever heard.

The 1st 2 minutes of the 4th movement ring down the curtain on at least 300 years of the greatest music the world has produced. As the composer himself said, he had given everything there was to give. 'The Rest is Noise.'

The organ-symphony was commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society in England, and the première was given in London on 19 May 1886, at St James's Hall, conducted by the composer. After the death of his friend Franz Liszt on 31 July 1886, Saint-Saëns dedicated the work to Liszt's memory.

"I gave everything to it I was able to give. What I've reached here, I'll never achieve again." (C. Saint-Saëns)

Thank goodness there have been other composers with the talent and stamina to keep on achieving.

And so did this Orchestra! American orchestras play the final movement far too quickly - almost as if they are in a rush to get it over with. This was lovely!

That'll do C. Saint-Saëns. That'll do.

The main theme of the Maestoso was later adapted and used in the 1977 pop-song "If I Had Words" by Scott Fitzgerald and Yvonne Keeley. The Maestoso movement is also included in the soundtrack of the film Impressions de France, which plays in the France pavilion at Epcot at the Walt Disney World Resort. The song and the symphony were used as the main theme in the 1995 family film Babe and its 1998 sequel Babe: Pig in the City...

The audience should have given a standing ovation. This is a ritual, not a movie.

Quite excellent with the exception of the first 2:08 which I thought could have been a bit more allegro. And your right William it should have been a long standing ovation at the end.

We're playing this in our community orchestra, and believe me, that section at 2:08 is plenty allegro....any faster and the strings would not be able to play it!

Superior technical direction in this version. The TD in these productions needs assistance from an orchestral member or student who knows the music. It’s very important that the video directors and camera operators run through a number of rehearsals to get it right.
