Had Mahidevran been sent away here and Mustafa allowed to grow up without her influence he would have ascended the throne, and none of Hurrem’s children would have been killed. Hurrem did not want to kill Mustafa, it’s why she saved him as a child, but once he was an adult and still under his mother’s influence she knew if he ascended the throne Mahidevran would kill her children. How different things would have been if Suleiman had not let Ibrahim talk him into letting her stay.

All of Hurrem’s sons would have been strangled to death with a bow string. That was the practice of the new Sultan upon ascending the throne. All royal brothers and their male offspring, regardless of age, were murdered so that the only legitimate males to inherit the throne were from the current Sultan. That law did not change until after Hurrem’s son’s Selim and Bayezid battled for the throne and Bayezid and all of his sons were murdered by his father. Once Selim became Sultan, he changed the law so that the first born surviving son would inherit the throne.

Was Ahmed I Selim's grand-grandson who didn't execute his only brother Mustafa when got the throne, but kept him somehow imprisoned into the palace. Mustafa had a kind of mental disability, may bd the reason that he was not executed, but after Ahmed passed away got the throne for two shorts periods. But Ahmed's Osman and Murad IV sons executed some of their brothers... In some ways, you can understand Mahidevran's pain. She did love Suleiman, and I'm sure watching him show love to other women was heartbreaking. It also had to be torture for people around her to constantly tell her that her only value was in pleasing the sultan and birthing sons. However, she knew the rules from the very beginning. The Sultan never has just one woman. By the rules of the harem, he can have up to 4 wives and many concubines. Mahidevran acted as if she was Suleiman's first, last, and only love. But he had Gulfem first. And according to history, he also had other favorites in Manisa besides Mahidevran. But her behavior sealed her fate, and she had no one to blame but herself for that. Not even Suleiman. He gave her gifts and still showed her affection even after Hurrem. But her arrogance and entitlement made him fall out of love with her. Then, she stirred up trouble in the harem, made up lies, and assaulted a concubine. She earned herself a one-way ticket to the Old Palace or maybe even execution. The fact that she constantly reminded Hurrem of her "place" and chastised her for breaking the rules was entirely hypocritical. She isn't a victim, at least not anymore. She was a victim who became a perpetrator in the cycle of abuse, then demanded to be given special treatment and forgiveness for it. I always find it ironic that in the later episodes, she asks Suleiman if he had a conscience after killing Mustafa. She killed Mehmed with no remorse and slept peacefully. She is the one who had no conscience.

Honestly I like Selim II more than Suleiman. He is hated because he didn't have a warrior personality and that he was drunkard. Not in this time period. Woman were kidnapped and forced into sexslavery. As hurrem was. She was a priests daughter who was kidnapped and sold to the sultans mother as a concubine. Meaning her life is to oy serve the sultan and carry his son. They had no other choice in the matter. It's not allowed, and can be your death sentence. Also the fact that she denied him twice made her more wanted by suliman. She played her cards. Yes it was a risk, but she was betting on that her denying him what he demands makes her more of a treasure he must have and hold. It's a 50/50chance it would work, and it did. He came running to her which is something that NEVER happens. A sultan doesn't go to your chambers like that ever. As a concubine you go to him.

Except Ottoman law forbade the Sultan from officially getting married. There could be a main concubine or Haseki as they were called, but there was never officially a Queen/Empress of the Ottoman Empire. Spoilers if you haven't seen it already, and this is based on the real life history of Sultan Suleiman. He will officially break that law and take Hurrem as his legally married wife in the future. In real life, once Hurrem came into the picture, Suleiman dismissed the entire haram as he only wanted Hurrem.

Again from what I've been able to find the story of mahidevran beating hurrem came from a foreigner who claims to have caught a glimpse of it. We don't actually know if it's true or if the foreigner made it up to make the harem look bad. Very little is known about the life and feelings of the women in the harem. Edit: I could be wrong this is just what I learned when I looked into this a little bit. I'm not from this culture or this place.
