Mahidevran did this for one reason and one reason only; to pitt Hurrem and Hatice against each other. See this way instead of seeing it for what it was and thats Mahidevran ruining the birth of Hatices children, she can manipulate it when looking back and say that Hurrem ruined it by being a hypocrite and wearing the crown to upstage the birth as well. I have to admit it was smart on her part, this way she can use it to manipulate Hatice and bring her to her side. What a horrible woman, i know we dont know the true person that she was but good god if she was anything like her show counterpart id hate to be around her, whining and crying constantly to get sympathy.

Great observation!!! Valide said it best when she said Hurrem thinks with her own mind and Mahidevran uses other people. Smh I feel bad for Mustafa he believes his mother has his best interest at heart but she doesn't, she only wants the power that comes from being his mom. Some diplomats either mistakenly or for political reasons called her his "first wife" and originally from their country but she wasn't. Mind you, they also didn't really understand polygamous societies so some of it may have just been an assumption. Compare that with Hurrem's circumstances which were very well documented.

I have some sympathy towards Mahidevran, I really do. But it's like Ibrahim said... she's hard to protect. Cause she's acting stupid. She tries to pull out same stunts as Hurrem but doesn't take into account that she gets away with it because Suleiman loves her. And it's not even that Hurrem took him away from her-it's clear since the beginning that he only loves her as a mother of his son. Which is different kind of love, more platinic, closer to respect rather than affection. I'd compare it to the relationship of him snd Gulfem-difference is that Gulfem was lower in status and Mahidevran actively worked to destroy what she already had.

I agree with you. She's not very smart. In fact she's rather stupid. Suleyman never loved her like he loved Hureem. She's just one of the concubine in the harem except that her son survived and was the "first" born because the others before him died. So mustafa became the oldest and only son of Suleyman until Hureem came along and bore Suleyman four sons and a daughter.

And she still put all her sadness, heartbreak, and crying and negative emotions onto her son. That's why she was such a selfish woman.

Actually she created all the problems and sufferings for herself and her son ... she never wanted to accept her fate and the situation that she's in. Along the way she caused other people her supporters as well as her enemies to suffer too. She had too high an opinion of herself just because her son was the first surviving son before Hureem's children came along. She never looked at herself in the mirror and always blaming everybody especially Hureem for her sufferings. Like valide sultan said that mahidrevan used people (including her son) for her own means and ends while Hureem used her brains ... that said it all.

Hurrem responded to the attacks on her not instigated them. Mahidevran would flat out lie to her son, and Valide Hafsa about things that Hurrem said or did that never happened. But it was the only way to justify her wicked and hateful behavior towards Hurrem. Hurrem was not a white dove by any means, but she did put her Children’s well being first above hers, Mahidevran did not, even causing Mustafa to confront the Sultan because Mahidevran lied about Hurrem causing her pain. Hurrem was smarter than that. Even the Valide Hafsa admitted to it right before her passing. And, they both were looking out for power, but Hurrem never envisioned her children on the throne while the Sultan was alive, Mahidevran did.

Mahidevran absolutely destroyed little Mustafa. She was an awful mother. She taught Mustafa to have no respect for Hurrem but Hurrem taught her children to have respect for her while they were little. She wanted Mustafa to hurt his siblings since they were little and be far from them and Hurrem did the opposite. Worst of all, she made her son grow up watching her cry and making her believe she was the only one suffering. Hurrem avoided crying for things like this in front of her children unless it was about protecting them. She was Mustafa's worst protection.
