Actually she is extremely intelligent , I think more than Safiye and at least at the same level as Kosem , she always knows what’s going on without even being informed about the situation , this perspicacity is litteraly incredible let’s be frank. She always know what is the next steps of her enemies , she is a sultana who lost all her power and want to regain it at the first opportunity, it was actually not stupid to enthrone her son but what was stupid was trusting Safiye sultan ( but she didn’t have choice ) it was the only chance to enthrone Mustafa , she knew that Safiye would get rid of her but could just do anything as she has any power

When i watched this series for the first time I admired kosem so much. Then in the second season I wondered how she became so ruthless and cruel. Did the death of her loved ones made her like that or what. But now I’m rewatching this season from the start and now I know she was power hungry from the beginning. She just wore an angel mask on her face and did all the dirty work behind it. Whenever she was kind to someone and all the charity work, she had some other intentions behind that. Even her love for osman was just to protect his own sons. She never stops because she has a greedy nature. Even dervish showed her that if she wanted to become new safiye sultan, her end is there in that tower. But kosem Sultan’s end was as horrific and worse as she herself was.

Be that as it may, can we really blame her for turning out that way? What did she do that so many others before her had already done a thousand times already? Safiye Sultan killed her father, her sister, and so many other things for the sake of holding onto her own power. In a place like that and in that time period, the only way to guarantee basic survival was to gain power. In whatever way that power takes form, whether it be through wealth, cunning, connections to powerful people, or anything else for that matter, those were pretty much the things you'll need in such a ruthless environment. It doesn't matter if you're a simple agha or a concubine, a sultana or the grand vizier himself. Sooner or later, you're going to get involved in the venomous wheeling and dealing in that place and when the time comes when two big factions collide, you're going to have to pick a side because as we see throughout the show, Safiye was willing to use whatever methods she had to, use whomever she had to achieve her goals and she had no qualms whatsoever with "tying up loose ends" if you catch my drift. However, I do understand what you're saying about Kosem and her desire for power. When she was with Safiye in her cell in the palace dungeon, Kosem said it herself that even when she was a child back in Greece, she 'never bowed to anyone.' However, I don't think it was out of pure greed that drove her. I do believe she genuinely cared about the people who stood by her throughout the show (Golge, Ahmed, Haci Agha, Kemankes, Eycan, Meleki, her firstborn son, Mehmet, Zulfikar, etc.), which is why she desired as much power as possible. I believe it was out of the desire to protect her loved ones and herself from pain that drove her. After she confronts Safiye in episode 10 for killing her father, pretty much declaring eternal war on her and her minions, she makes a promise to herself, saying that she will become the most powerful Sultana in history, and after that, she would use her power to make sure that no one would ever hurt or threaten her ever again. This reminds me of something my gym teacher told me when I was a sophomore in high school. I don't remember exactly what she said, but it was close to something like "For those who know the crosses that we bear, there is a reason why people are the way they are." Not all humans are angels, but regardless of that, we owe it to ourselves to be better than these people, to always to our best to take the high road, rather than stooping to their level. If more people were capable of doing that, the world would be a much better place than it is today. We are all going to have to stand up for ourselves at one point in time against these alpha males and alpha b*%@ches (forgive my language), but what kind of lives are we living if turn out to be no better than them at the end. Lastly, Murat Pasha himself said something like this to Kosem when they were making plans to dismantle the last remaining holdouts of Safiye Sultan's shadow empire. It's good to stand up to your enemies, but always remember why you're fighting and what you're fighting for.

What my point is is that we should learn from these examples set by people like Kosem, Safiye, Halime, Hurrem, Mahidevran, Turhan, Nurbanu and so many more. If we want to live better lives than they did, if we want to build a better world than the one they had to live with, then it is time for things to change and not just the world around us and the laws by which it currently stands, but we have to be willing to change ourselves. We have to change the way we see the world, see others, the way we think, the way we react and it doesn't stop there. All in all, what I'm saying is if you want to live in a better world and live better lives than they did, then we have to be better than this, plain and simple. If we don't learn to rise above our ambitions, our fears, our anger, hate, and sorrow, nothing will ever change. I know very well that society does not change overnight, but it is a cause worth fighting for, and it starts with us.
