An evening of rousing brass band classics highlighted by works from renown Houston based composer William R. Brusick: Psalm 98 and De Profundis. Other performances this evening will include Philip Spark's Cantilena, Ravenswood March by William Rimmer, Shostakovich's Scherzo from Symphony No. 10, and more.
The featured soloist of the evening will be Houston Symphony Associate Principal Trumpet John Parker, performing Oskar Böehme's Concerto for Trumpet. An important piece in a skilled repertoire for solo trumpet, this is the only known full-length trumpet concerto from the Romantic period of music. A great Russian styled concerto from a great composer.
The performance will be held in the marvelous acoustics of the beautiful 1920s auditorium at Lanier Middle School.
