Can someone explain me what the purpose is of these hours long matches and then writing down moves? Thx alot.
@trumpforever6706
@trumpforever6706 Ай бұрын
The rules of official long-time tournaments, which are the most important, oblige both players to write down their moves, also to allow the arbiter to reconstruct the game in case of disputes. Here there are cameras and electronic chessboards, but not all tournaments have these technological devices available to monitor the progress of the game.

For instance: to know when is the 40th move because of the 30 min. increment, to claim threefold repetition, 50 move rule...
@noone-ld7pt
@noone-ld7pt Ай бұрын
It is important for several reasons: 1. They get extra time at certain move counts (commonly 40 and 60) so it's useful for them to know how far along they are 2. Having both players write down the moves makes sure that there are no disagreements about how the game actually proceeded which can be very important for 3-fold repeition discussions/50 move rule draws. 3. All of this can and is obviously done digitally too these days, however tech issues are not uncommon so the old fashoin solution is a good and reliable backup.

@noone-ld7pt

Not quite, they were only 1 point off the lead pack before today and only India has maintained a perfect score. That leaves India with 12 points, then there is a group of three with 11, and a group of ten on 10 points and then Norway and the US are in the pack tied at 9 points. The event is just over half played with 5 rounds to go and since the top teams are now facing each others it makes the leaders more likely to drop points, so anything can still happen. India looks incredibly strong though and people are already beginning to whisper about whether this team can achieve the elusive perfect 11/11 score! In any case there is undoubtedly a lot more excitement to come!
