They get 10 minutes to study the position before the clock starts.

They studied the position for about 10-25 minutes I believe, they studied it together as well as shown on the livestream. All players get the same starting position once a position has been randomly drawn.

Well Magnus handpicked his opponents, although you can't accuse him of picking weak opponents. I think they also didn't want too many players from on country: Aronian; Caruana; So; Hikaru are all from the US.

The other thing to consider is that this might just be the first of many future events. Jan Henric Buettner is one of the guys that founded AOL Europe and won a lawsuit worth 160 million euros in 2003. He's since expanded into luxury real estate and has been doing very well for himself. He could probably host something like this every year or every few years and sell audience member seats for a small wealthy audience. Plus, it's free advertising. If they bring back the champion from this year and Magnus and then invite a new group of people, it could become a fun little side event for the chess world to look forward to every year.

It does not have to be this chaotic. Just put the white queen on e1 and the white king on d1 and keep blacks position. So the queens faces the oppostions king. It is a minor change but it will destory any opening theory known

Since i started playing 960 chess a couple of years ago i dont play anymore regular chess, after a while regular chess seems so repetitive and full of patterns, in 960 the matches are crazy from the first move plus you dont have to learn openings anymore, i dont like them :). It´s like you are using the ideas of another person, not yours. It would be amazing if you could do a little more 960 content

960 is fun. With limited theoretical knowledge, you can offer resistance to opponents who are normally out of your league. Rating Fischer as the GOAT seems reasonable once you've tried this very creative invention. All Carlsen gave us is that cynical Plow!

Why Magnus ist the absolut GOAT in normal Chess but in chess960 he is loosing...I thougt he would be also great there, because he likes playing not standard openings and is great in calculating... but I dont understand why he is in the actual freestyle goat challange not so good.
