Nothing. He could have played Rc3 and just Qxd4 also I think, but he wanted more than just to be "up material", ended up wasting too much time and got into time trouble and panicked, made some inaccuracy and blunders and was lucky to draw. That was his worst game. He did say "what am I doing, it's horrible, I'm such an idiot" lol.

Online chess is turning into a joke. Magnus is 3269. Playing against an FM who is somehow 2934. That should not be the case. If you roughly convert it to ELO, that FM should be 2690.. Unless someone can explain how the gap can be so small.

On line cheating is a big isue.

Cheating is an issue, but there's a other couple reasons for this. One is that rating starts to heavily cap out at 2900-3000. VERY few people are above 3000. Which means that if you are 3000 or above, you mostly start play people who are mostly 2 or 300 rated lower than you because that's all that's available. Which means if you win you get generally gain like 2 or 3 rating points, losing a game means losing -15 rating points or so. This makes it very difficult to gain rating at that level. Also, a lot of super GMs often just don't play online often (or at all), allowing some particuarly committed GMs, IMs and even FMs who are good at online blitz to gain more rating points than they would normally
