I agree this should be a thing in the future, but without women tournaments they wouldn't get any representation simply because there arent enough good women players to compete in major tournament. This isnt because of genetics and its simply just numbers, there are significantly more men that play so we should expect that significantly more men are in the top 1% of players, and participate in the biggest tournaments. Women are in fact allowed to participate in these tournaments if they qualify but it usually doesnt happen, or they rather compete in the womens tournaments. Removing womens tournaments would get rid of their representation if we were to do it right now

Their is certainly some truth to this statement, girls have become GMs as early as 15, anyone who can become a GM at that age is certainly very talented and hardworking, the problem starts from there, once they become a GM, they almost stop playing open tournaments all together. Women chess is certainly a good event to attract more girls to the sport but it's a double edged sword, it also acts as a deterrent once a women player becomes a GM, they choose to play in the women only event because it gives them a better chance of earning more money in the short term, they become complacent. Judit exclusively played open and made it as far as candidates. The only fast way to make women stronger forcefully is to ban women chess after a certain age for example 18-21. The difference is that as they age, increased testosterone makes men more competitive and therefore more likely to dedicate their entire life to being good at a single game. Hence why there is no difference at a young age. There are just less adult women obsessed with the chess to such a degree that they could become a champion, because there is generally less of an emotional reward from being “the best” as women don’t find the idea of “beating” the competition to be as gratifying. Again these are all extremely general statements but they have an impact of the number of female chess players. Since champions like Magnus are 1 in a 1000 in terms of GMs, and there are far less women GMs, it will just take a while for a “female Magnus” to appear. It’s inevitable Of course there’s cultural factors as well but I think in general this is a reality in competitive sports of all kinds, physical or not, and a reason men comprise a majority even at sports they have no actual physical advantage at

@fortytwo7976 - you might be right - I wonder if there are any good studies. Of course there are a lot of super competitive women in sports that might disagree with you. I suspect its a numbers game as well as resources not being fairly allocated - oh and the sexual intimidation.

Yeah, but it could be argued that that’s a byproduct of a patriarchal society which encourages men to compete and women to be more passive. We’ve seen competition between women rise in recent years as women become more socially free. However, a biological role absolutely could be a part of it.

In my experience women are more competitive but they're less likely to take a loss as a personal matter, whereas men tend to generally take it personally enough to push them towards obsessive improvement.

eh, idk depends where you look. you can't really take male dominated industries and use them to base off a whole ass opinion on 50% of the human population. If we look at fields were women dominate you could make the opposing argument. just look at medicine that's a field very dominated by women (also in mental health). If we look just at that then "on average men don't care as much about winning!" (where winning is defined as a medical career). You can do this for a lot of stuff like childcare, education, cosmetology, some genres of music actually. Sports in general have a history of being unfavourable to women so using that as a benchmark to gauge the competitive drive of women across the globe is kinda insane. But yeah testosterone makes men do crazy stuff, also women are raised to be obedient and submissive overall so, totally. I do agree with you, I just don't like where you drew your conclusion from.

my honest opinnion is that when we talk about IQ men are not smarter on average then women but the area where men have a advantage is the level of competetivness and emotional maturity when we face defeats, i think its easier for men to achieve equilibrium during a chess game while women have to much of a emotional turbulence
