Magnus Resch, art economist and author, sat down with Josh Baer for The Baer Faxt Live from Art Basel in Basel, recorded live during the VIP opening of the fair.

Wow, excellent discussion for anyone interested in learning the art market and the strategy for new artists. Magnus is brilliant and always on point with statistical data regarding the revenue generated and obstacles that affect most artists today. On a side note, I always look forward to The Baer Facts podcast as Josh seems to have a relaxed way of interviewing his guests which make them feel comfortable through the process, a truly gifted interviewer in my opinion. Very weird statistics guys you came up with.. there are almost 300 galleries if each would sell only 3-4 artworks they would all lose money as the investment in the fair is very high.

Good chat, as a collector with over 5000 works I would say one of the biggest issues is not bringing in the new beginning collector who is gun shy of spending over 2000. The other issue is the ultra pretentious art dealer who really is clueless as the pretentious stuff ticks off new collectors entering the market. As for seasoned collectors we tend to buy elsewhere and not even attend the openings of these types of dealers. Leo was high style but not pretentious. A poser maybe but never pretentious. Artie was much like Leo very down to earth but full of knowledge. Some of the new dealers not so much
