This match speaks volumes about Hikaru’s resilience and resourcefulness, and Magnus’ raw domination even on an off day. He was clearly off-form but still nearly clutched it at the end. He led the 3+1 and 1+1 after playing badly in the 5+1. GOATs.

I honestly think the WC final being at the same day probably was bad for Magnus. I felt exhausted myself after that and I was completely neutral. He looked completely out of energy. Well played by Hikaru though, I think he played better overall and completely played Magnus's weakness and didn't let it come down to creative chess as he said himself.
@williamrobert9898 Жыл бұрын
@Tehkenny1 I wouldn't necessarily say he played "better" than Magnus, it was clear that Magnus always got the better of Hikaru whether he was on the white side or the black side he seemed to outplay Hikaru in most of the games but he had some terrible time management and most of the games in which he outplayed Hikaru ended in a draw after Magnus failed to convert his advantage
@Tehkenny1 Жыл бұрын
@@williamrobert9898 I think you're wrong but it is also the reason why Carlsen is the best player in the world and Hikaru isn't. Hikaru is perfect against Magnus, Magnus thrives on creative and wild chess, he wants it as far away from theory as possible while Hikaru is probably the best in the world at solid chess. Playing constantly solid against a player like Magnus means Magnus need to play more risky moves which can lead to counter attacks

With 12min10s left in the 3+1 segment, Magnus let hikaru get away with a draw by repetition. But Hikaru only had 5s left on the clock and magnus still had almost the full 3min. Magnus could have avoided the draw but would have been down a queen in a losing position. But again it was 3min vs 5s. Was it hopeless to try and outmanoeuvre Hikaru in that situation ? Is 5s (+1 per move) plenty of time for Hikaru when he's up a queen against magnus ?

Probably the best chess match I’ve ever seen!! Both gave it their all, it could have gone either way. Congratulations Hikaru, you were an inspiration today and you deserved this victory! Magnus, an undeniable legend, I’m sure he’ll be back even stronger than ever next time!

The way you do these recaps is so fun to watch, not everyone can make these so these so digestible and entertaining. Especially when it literally involves some of the best players of our time !

This all in all is just a great recap. Gotham has def grown along with the channel, despite he always had great ideas to present from the start which helped with his accelerated success on KZbin. I wouldn’t learn half the things I do today if not for how much I find this man’s content entertaining. Thank you Levy!
