Agad, when you say "it's completely new game", does it include the consequent moves? Like, for example, if a player makes the same moves, but in a different order - do you declare a "new" game at first deviation, or at the last one?
@agadmator5 ай бұрын
Mostly last one

It's super rare that a position deviates significantly to get back to the same stuff. Mostly happens via different move order in the opening phase in known positions.

Praggnanandhaa was 3 points behind. He only had chance if Magnus lost in the classical. With the draw in the classical, Magnus made 1 point, so only Hikaru could reach Magnus, if he won the classical against Praggnanandhaa.

I don't know if you meant to reference it, but the title reminded me an old quote of Bogoljugov. When asked how he wins all these games, he said: well, when I am white it is because I have the advantage of the 1st move... and when you are black? (came the inevitable question) - when I am black, because I am Bogoljugov (was the answer).

The Chess Engine thinks everything is a draw -- It sounds like Engines need a new parameter, where it can evaluate the position in terms of the Rating of each player for the given position. Of course everything is drawn of it's Stockfish vs Stockfish. But what about if it's Magnus vs Fabi? Lol. I think that may be a fun alternate tool for chess engines, to see if the position has a slight favor for a better player, or if it truly is a drawn position with reasonable play.
@permanentlybored1955 ай бұрын
This would take machine learning and it would be very expensive
@AkumaAPN5 ай бұрын
@permanentlybored195 Maybe. Maybe not. It could just be like a filter, or quick math conversion, or a secondary figure that can be multiplied by the difference in player rating. At a certain point, chess engine position analysis becomes useless if it only takes into account the playing strength of the engine itself. There becomes a disconnect as the Engine says a winnable position for a human is "drawn," or that a position is winnable when no human would ever be able to convert it over the board.

Maybe I’m a purist, but every high profile match coming down to Armageddon is becoming anticlimactic and boring. Less time for GMs to analyze positions means they’re utilizing mostly instinct, preparation, and memorization rather than finding interesting lines. Not to mention it’s a somewhat different skill set than classical, so having primarily classical competitions come down to blitz just feels disingenuous.

I hate how schools and colleges give students a year's time before conducting final (year-end) exams, the students who study more get more marks and it's quite unfair because even dumb students who work hard can get as many marks as intelligent/clever students, instead they should give only 2 weeks times so that students who can show their out-of-the-box-thinking gets benefitted...
@nicbentulan5 ай бұрын
Why don't Fabi, Nepo & Hikaru buy out Liren? Each pays 333,333 USD. (Or 499,999 USD or whatever.) They have a playoff. Winner faces Gukesh. Each of these 5 players benefit. FIDE & audience benefit from having a better match. Hopefully it's not that no one is doing what everyone wants just because of something written in some book. In fact 4 of the 5 players actually lose money, and no one's hiding anything. They get FIDE's consent.
