I couldn’t agree with you more about the Governor. David Morrissey gave the character so much depth and realness. He felt like a real guy, who lost everything and went down a dark path, but still had the charisma and sociopathic charm to get people to follow him. The comic Governor was very much a caricature and I don’t think Morrissey gets nearly enough credit for his portrayal in the show. Easily one of the top 5 best performances in the entire series, IMO.

Can’t believe they ruined comic Andrea’s storyline in the show twice by giving it to two characters that didn’t even get to finish it (Andrea and Sasha)

The show was better than the comics at the start but the comics got better while the show got insufferably worse. The comic did flop just a little bit with the Commonwealth bc not much build up happened and it might be just me but the comics I felt also had a fairytale ending.

@@Grayson_ytz the Governor was a better character in the show but he was more scary in the comics. I wish the show implemented both aspects. He didn’t seem scary enough in the show, he should’ve just cut off Glenn’s hand in the show just so everyone can see that he means business. The horror aspect wasn’t in the show but I’d still say he was better in the show imo bc he was a more nuanced character.

@@HenzoW-cf3mh Nah the ending for the comics was great imo. Not everyone needs to die at the end of a zombie story to show that "post apocalyptic world bleak". After a very long journey, many losses on the way, and more than a few bleak moments, a happy ending is more than deserved for most of these characters imo, and fits perfectly with the themes of the comics. And I thought Michonnes arc was good as well, she was a lawyer before the fall, so her becoming one again after civilisation rebuilds itself is a good conclusion imo.

I personally think Rick is better in the comics for sure. He gave Tyr from Norse Mythology vibes, which made him a much more personally impactful character. The scene where he brutalizes Thomas is one of the most memorable moments for me ever. I also liked how he went back to dig up Shane’s grave 30 issues later and shoot the zombified Shane. He’s also a lot more intelligent in the comics and had such a badass leadership role (which show Rick ofc did as well, but not the same level)

I skipped to the end to see the list, but I’ll go back and rewatch the video. Although I do believe Frost is in the comics, but he’s a commonwealth soldier rather than Maggie’s ally. For characters that weren’t in the tier list: Erin: I’d put the comic did her better. The show just killed her off immediately. Hilltop Oscar: this is tough, although the comic counterpart is more recognizable, the most he did was warn the group about the whisperers, this role was given to Marco in the show, and comic Oscar got piked versus the show where he got knifed in the chest while defending the wagon. I guess comic Oscar is a tad bit better. I mean, did show Oscar get a collectible figurine made out of him? I don’t think so. Douglas: Comic did him better, show version was literally just an extra who happened to survive. Brianna: comic did it better, she shows up once in the show and dies off screen. Wesley: Show did him better I guess. Only reason why because he appeared more versus the comic version appeared one time. Bruce: show did him better I guess, outlived comic version. Barbara: show is better. No more needs to be said. Brandon: no comment. Forgot everything Brandon does in the comic.

I really like your explanation about why you like Negan more in the comics. I would have chosen same level but I totally understand your point. I feel like in the show Negan is more evil than comic Negan at the start but then they try turning him into a better person than comic Negan becomes after All out war and that’s a bit unrealistic to me. The change is way more extreme in the show. They really did a better job with the redemption arc in the comics. Also the whole he would never kill kids part is bullshit because he would have killed Carl and he let children die in Alexandria 8x8. Though tbf I do think this might just be a case of Negan being an unreliable narrator and that he is just a character we as audience aren’t always supposed to trust, which then would actually be great writing. Anyway totally agree on the redemption part, but the performance of JDM is just so amazing and I think without Negan the last few seasons woulda been pretty boring which is why I’d chose same level.

I actually agree with all of these. I appreciate you not being as unfair to the show vetsuons of Lori and Andrea as a lot of fans. A lot of the early comic storylines were boring/rushed imo, the amount of cheating plots was weird. But yeah, I ultimately prefer the show for the first half, as the comics got better and the show got worse as time went on. Imo Lori was just unlikable in the comics but she was much better in the show, a lot of that coming from Shane's storyline being extended.
