But seeing not just the more expensive HT7 brakes with one finger levers, but also the weaker and cheaper Trail brakes, really feels a bit scummy - especially when the levers are that expensive to get. Trying to build my first mtb while being poor, is really frustrating with "options" like these.

@email gmail Well Sir, Shimano has nothing like it, nor does anyone else in the cycling industry. The only thing similar is a two way adjustable Brembo motorcycle radial master cylinder. The adjustment on the lever blade changes the "leverage" so you can choose the properties of braking including changing the amount of lever blade travel, modulation, engagement point and power depending on your preferences or trail conditions.

Until you drop the bike on concrete and the carbotechture (swiss cheese) just gets shredded. It is very common for the area around the bleed screw to get all shredded and start leaking if you drop the bike on anything abrasive. Hi. My question. Is. Can I replace a brake lever of an mt7 for an mt5e. The reason is. That I bought the mt7 for my dualtron electric scooter and it works great the only thing is that I don't have a switch to turn on the brake lights when I use the brake. But I was thinking since is cheap to buy an mt5e brake lever on ebay. Rather than buy mt7e brakes all over again. I can use the mt5e brake lever. Please if u can answer my question. No, the hydraulic system doesn't get opened if you're only changing the lever.

Quick question: Why is it that Magura does not ship the MT7 with the price class appropriate (and much appreciated to exist) carbon brake levers? It seems possible at the level of the MT trail brakes, which are in the price range of the MT5, (essentially the front brake is a relabelled MT5), and those come with carbon lever blades as standard, which leads me to believe that pricing cannot be the ultimate issue. At close to 200€ per brake, i do actually expect to get everything upfront.

You would need to compare the MT7 Pro to our MT Trail SL rather than our MT Trail Sport (which doesn't come with carbon levers). A set of MT7s will cost you (RRP) 2x219,90€ = 439,80€. The MT Trail SL with the Carbon levers is (RRP) 579,90€ for a set.

so when removing the pin to change the lever on left hand brake it needs to be punched out downwards, and the right hand brake lever the pin needs to be punched out upwards..is this correct? Cheers

To avoid any misunderstanding: all masters need to be oriented as shown in the video in order to punch out the pin in the correct direction. It sounds like you've understood it correctly, but we're not sure if we're misunderstanding you.

I find it incredible that Magura is forcing to replace the carbon lever at 100 euros, just because a very small part (spring) is broken….this unacceptable and not encouraging clients to buy products that cannot be repaired ….so now I am going to pay 100 euros the part, plus the labor to the dealer, and then i end up with a perfectly fine lever (with the broken spring) absolutely new and dump it….so much for repairability…I am furious and will not purchase any Magura products anymore, and also broadcast my network that they must stay away from this type of product.

They only sell one option for Magura and it's compatible with MT Trail Sport, MT4, MT5, MT6, MT7 and MT8. That means there is no real life difference between the master cylinders across the board. Um.... when fitting HC3 levers the BAT adjuster does not have a purpose and does not work so there is no need to reinstall it. In fact, don't HC3 levers come with a BAT blank?

The BAT adjuster does have an effect, but that is indeed quite small. It is useful for averaging out the different feel between front and rear brake due to the longer brake hose on the rear brake. The BAT adjustment is not needed with the HC3 lever, because that lever has a bite point adjustment on the lever itself, which gives you a much bigger adjustment than the BAT adjuster.

@@RideLowCo It could be a lot of things, it's hard to diagnose something like this via the internet. It depends on where the master is leaking. It could definitely be caused by an overtightened bleed screw, but could also be caused by other things.

The power of these brakes is the only reason I'm still running them!! Levers break too easily, levers cost too much, and the system as a whole is too finicky on keeping the perfect bleed or feel. I don't recommend these brakes to people... don't want those people to hate me!! Lol

The lever blade is alloy or carbon depending which you have. The master cylinder body is charbotechture (carbon infused nylon composite) and is fine when torqued correctly. I agree when you buy Magura brakes they need to make it clear to be gentle with tightening and use a torque wrench. Inside the master cylinder is lined with alloy to keep stiffness up

Yes you can knock the whole pin out and every spare lever comes with a new spare pin. But please make sure to install to push the pin in the right direction like shown in the video.
